I don't bother with them. Never have the right size sinkers ir hooks. Much better options than bcf in my opinion.

On the plus side, the staff
On the plus side, the staff have no idea which items are on sale and which are not.

The art of fishing consists of casting, winding, trolling and jigging
while freezing, sweating, swatting and swearing.

Um, its the bunnings store
Um, its the bunnings store of hardware stores, dont go to bcf unless you want helpful advice from a pimply 15 yr old .... (apologies to 15 yr olds on this site that now lots about fishing). For the best equipment, best advice, go to a site sponsor like oceanside tackle or another specialty store like campbells or all boat business....

You know Campbells is owned
You know Campbells is owned by the parent company of BCF?
Super Retail Group owns BCF, Super Cheap Auto, and also Rays Outdoors and other store chains over east.
http://www.superretailgroup.com.au/
Though yes, Campbells does usually have people that know what they are talking about

There is nothing on that site that indicates campbells is owned by bcf. I was aware of rays and supercheap auto.

If I remember correctly they
If I remember correctly they bought Campbells in 2008 or 2009. They kept it on the down low and have tried to ever since, I guess to try and appear to still be an independent store. Not that it bothers me. If they got the gear and the people are friendly its good enough for me.

Yep Campbells is owned by BCF, meant to be the "high end" / pro tackle store of the BCF group. There is also talk of Campbells stores being opened on the east coast soon as well.

Yeah you're right, I applied when i was about 16 but couldn't get a job there because they said they had no positions available, yet when we go to line up at the checkout there are 10 people waiting in one line and the 2 other registers are closed!

My local at Cannington is
My local at Cannington is regularly out of bait. And when they have specials on, the lures I go to get are generally gone by the time I fly home from work. Got a Rays and Anaconda nearby so I have been to all 3 some days. There's no independant fishing stores near my area either so it becomes bloody frustrating at times!

spoke to one of the BCF guys
spoke to one of the BCF guys not long ago.
I went in to buy leader (I like Jenki )they had none of the size I wanted on the shelf and the guy I spoke with said "the rep will only send us one at a time" I said "one box" he said "no one spool" apparently they can only get one in at a time and the next one can only be ordered when it has been "sold" ...(put through the till.)
takes two weeks to get another one in, so the max they can sell is one spool every two weeks.!!!!!
Must be hard for a business to operate with hands tied like that

That salesman is pulling your leg I'm sorry to say
why would a rep not want to sell a store as much stock as he possibly can goes againsted the rules of being in business I've heard some pretty lame excuses from salesmen about there incompetent ordering systems but that's a good one lol

Cannington Pimply Feedback
The pimply 15 year old behind the counter at Cannington told me that the stock level must get to zero on the computer
before it can be ordered. The order is then delivered to Head Office in QLd, it is then sent to the WA warehouse and
then sent to individual stores by them.
Hence the delay.
I go to Getaway in Cannington, at least they had bait that was not off or not in stock.

sounds like a ridiculous system but BCF is a bigger business than mine so I guess I cant condemn them.

That joint is a disgrace,
That joint is a disgrace, Bluewater is cheaper, cleaner and lower priced. BCF are selling individually packed snapper leads for 8 dollars each! Half the shalves are empty and the store is a mess. Id say they will be out of business ver soon

Fishing would have such
Fishing would have such small margin that even is people stopped buying fishing stuff there, there are so many other product lines that they wouldn't go out of business.
how much profit is in three lures and a spool of braid? $10? $20? At a guess, not enough pay for the time it takes to order replacements, or serve the customer. Sell one tent or a kayak and the it's worth it.
If one lure is out of stock, it's not worth ordering and paying freight for one, two or three. When a few are out of stock and you can consolidate and order, well then it is efficient.

I got alot of my camping
I got alot of my camping stuff from a combination of BCF, Rays Outdoors and Anaconda. Have found Ray's to be more camping orientated than the others. Not sure if there's one in Mandurah though. But for general cooking/sleeping gear the BCF in Cannington is pretty good, its mainly the fishing section thats lacking

Be aware that BCF and RAYS
Be aware that BCF and RAYS OUTDOORS are the same company.
One month one will have good specials on a few items and then the next month, the other mob will.
just research the catalogue and see who has what and when.

Head into Getaway Outdoors Mandurah (over the road from BCF) and talk to Erica, Carolyn or Nola, they are more than happy to help and have more than enough experience within the industry to assist your needs....always support local indepent small business. We offer great service and competitive prices :)

Useless
The story I was given by BCF staff is that all ordering is done from head office so the individual shop has no control over what is ordered or when. Smells like BS to me. They are useless!

BCF in Osborne Park is great! Very helpful staff especially Liam and Darren, and stock is usually good for popular items.
Getaway Outdoors in Osborne Park is also good for general fishing supplies. Frozen bait range/quality is better than BCF.

Hopefully senior management may read this thread and make some changes, I am not
bagging the staff at my local store as they do seem to try, more of a management issue I think.

Truth
Yes Campbell's is owned by the super retail group the business has nothing to do with BCF it stands alone, as western australian folk are aware it is a iconic 60 yr old store,it is in for the long haul as your independant (WA only) it has it's own range which is not available in the above mentioned chain store. For the record I cannot comment on this any more for policy and procedure with in Super Retail Group and Fishwrecked Website.

For those not in the tackle
For those not in the tackle retail industry, its not entirely true that they stand alone(well not 100%) Go into any BCF store and quote the price say for a reel advertised on Campbells website and they will sell it for the same price. I have done this twice for BCF in Malaga for two different fishing reels as I couldn't be bothered driving to Leederville one time as Malaga is on the way home from work for me. Their stock numbers are also linked on computer so they can see what any stock any store is holding. But have also done this for a rod at Campbells where BCF had them on sale for cheaper, but was in Campbells at the time so they sold it for the same price to me.
Same goes for stock, occasionally stock is transfered between the BCF stores and Campbells. Eg when I wanted a rod when I was in Campbells that they didnt have they rung BCF in Balcatta who did have it, and so one of the lads from BCF in Balcatta dropped it into Campbells (where I was) as he was driving there to drop some stuff off anyway.
Not to mention there have been a fair few staff that started in BCF stores that have then transferred to Campbells or been sent there during busy periods of year.
How do I know this?
I worked for BCF for a bit a few years ago for some extra summer coin. Hell just the staff discount made it worth it. Two of my mates, who are also studying at Uni, still work at BCF stores, and will admit now they have no idea about anything about boating, camping or fishing other than basic stuff. But the good thing is sometimes there are employees there that do know their stuff.
Personally my best rated BCF store from my experiences is the Busselton store. So friendly there and bent over backwards to help me out on a couple of occasions.
But definitly enjoy and highly rate going to Campbells, just its location sometimes makes it more convenient to visit one of the NOR BCF stores instead.

I'll make it known that
I'll make it known that Campbells is not owned by BCF. Owned by the Super Cheap Retail Group. The Group Just happens to own BCF, Rays etc. Not that it should matter anyway, being a miles better store. They don't try and hide it, if you don't know, you are living under a rock. Shouldnt matter who owns it.
As for the stock levels, it does work on a replenishment system...... but obviously the specific store has its replen set to when the system runs out. Which, is not always accurate as it works off how many have been sold......... not taking into account how many have been knocked off or used for store purposes (without being written off). Head Office dictates the final say anyway, and works off a units sold per week basis to define how much stock actually gets ordered.
As for Jinkai, don't get me started. When I worked at Campbells, We had a helluva hard time getting jinkai ordered from Head Office. We would have an empty shelf for 3 weeks and get sent 3 of each spool on the 4th week. Sell them in 2 days and be out again. Told us we werent selling enough units to justify raising the order quantity...... logic? not even once. Of course we werent selling any, because we didnt have any!
Anyway. As randall said, it is the Bunnings of the tackle trade. It's a great job for young outgoing people, but you are always gonna have a few bad eggs. Unfortunately turns out to be a lot in some stores. You go into BCF if you know what you want (and they have the stock......), not for advice. Thats what your independent stores are for.
I am no longer afilliated with the SRG or Campbells ProTackle. Just take each on their merits. Still one of the biggest Australian owned companies in the world and there is a reason for it.

Just another reason to
Just another reason to support your local. The super retail group that owns sed stores is a publicly traded company, meaning share holders make money if its doing well, if its not they release more shares and buy another company or open more stores gaining capital that keeps the group running. Has nothing to do with customer satisfaction. You may also notice when you go into super cheap auto you can't buy a decent name brand tool, it's all SCA Chinese shit. Same is happening with BCF. Wanderer, kato, rouge, and more. They just copy name brand gear, make it cheaper, give it a new name and say its just as good. Bull shit to that!!!! Rant over.

No buying power either
I recently priced a Sounder and Transducer from my local BCF store, no problems they would approach the distributor and get the best price for me, they called back the next day and you guessed it, BCF was 33% more expensive than anywhere else, so much for membership discounts, loyalty etc etc.
I will not shop at BCF again and will save money, what a sham supposed buying power.

WTF BCF Rockingham, way better off at Complete Angler on Dixon R
BCF Rockingham take the cake for me, a fishing shop that wont provide newspaper to wrap bait! there's a few good apples among the staff but the company is well and truly Donald Ducked in regards to looking after customers, I've experienced it and seen it there so often. I've spoken to their head office and was dissapointed with the response from these oxygen thieves (and I'm being polite).
My preference is to head over to Complete Angler on Dixon Road, Marc, Phil and their crew treat customers with respect and put a real effort into getting right. Everyone in the shop does what they can to help out customers and pass on knowledge (they have bucket loads of it). If I'm handing over my hard earned I prefer it be to people that go the extra mile and the people in this shop do that, they all work hard and work as a team. The guys in this shop love fishing and the environment, they are always up for a chat and a laugh and give a lot back in their support for community/charity events. Where we've had differences they've been sorted on the spot, you just have to spend twenty minutes in the place to see how many people walk through the door and are greeted by their first name.
Their VIP nights for regular customers are absolute crackers, they work hard for their money and have been good to me over the years I have shopped there.
Acceptance is the key
