Same thing happened at Point Perron. Back before i was born, the water corp put out a swage pipe which involved blowing up some reef. This caused about 75m of beach lost resulting in the loss of all of the holiday houses from the boat ramp turn off, onwards. We used to stay in a house down there and were able to fish 100m out the front of the house (near bird island) and catch all sorts.

Government wanted the houses gone and didnt do anything to stop them washing into the ocean, and over time, they all went.

Government can make changes to avoid beaches washing away but it all depends on if they want to or not.
