Funny that being on the news
Funny that being on the news Unc because we had a good look at it from the boat on Sat. They reckon the cause of it all was the road put down to the beach, it never had approval. The Pro's are now using our beach access ramp. Yeah doesn't look good for a couple of houses there especially with winter very close it will only take a couple of storm surges and the lot will go in the drink. It's been like that for a couple of years now and steadily getting worse.
Edit: Our place is at the back of the park so if the front gets washed away we'll have ocean views lol.

couldn't believe it
thought it must have been queensland, poor buggers wont be able to sell either I wonder if insurance covers that, the shire say they haven't got the money to fix the erosion

Typical Gin Gin shire
Typical Gin Gin shire response. We pay a shit load of rates at the van park and don't even get a rubbish collection. We are hoping to get one of our own elected onto the council this year to give us a voice and a slice of the pie. There should have been a groyne put in there years ago, they are only now doing the research and considering it. Typical council dithering.

Groyne
Sticking a groyne in will probably cause more damage than whats occurring now. Just look at the Busselton beach where sand has built up on the west side of the groynes and cut out to buggery on the east side, again the same has happened at the spur by the harbour in Bunbury and along the Mandurah and Metro beaches where they have been built. Two Rocks marina north side is a top example where there used to be a beach and now its sandhill straight in to the water.

I'm only going on what I've
I'm only going on what I've heard about the research they are doing up there with ocean currents etc. They are talking about putting it in south of the town on the limestone reef already there. I don't know I'm no scientist or expert but it's the old thing of human intervention you either have a groyne and save the erosion north of there or let it slide into the sea, no brainer this pleb reckons.

What about Cottesloe? that's
What about Cottesloe? that's been there since year dot and seems to work fine? I'm just being devil's advocate. Everyone whinges that they can't have access to the ocean if they don't put groynes or marina's in (which are just huge groynes). So have all the experts on here got a solution or as I said do you just let the lot slide into the sea? I'm not saying they are a good idea but if we want our cake and eat it too.

agree carnarvonite
starvation bay another example, where the final act of a hopeless council was to
Spend 250k on a groyne, without stopping to ask anyone about the currents and wave
action et etera. then the next council had to send another 250k to get rid of it
Before it rooted the bay totally.
Ironically there is a natural flat rock ramp which was just fine for decades and free.

as carnarvonite
has pointed out - the problem with groins is that the sand that they hold is then removed by the ocean at another point. That's mother nature for you.
Fishin for a feed and fun.

last thing you want
a groyne is the last thing you want. That will just make erosion even worse like the rest of the coast where they have put groynes in

Seabird
The problem doesn't rest with the shire, the coastal reserve belongs to the state government.

There's also native title
There's also native title issues along that line . That's what held up our beach access at the park. If you want to do anything there you have to go through Gin Gin shire as it's all their infrastructure etc.
