Bertram 20 - Pod vs transom mod
Submitted by therock on Tue, 2014-08-19 22:48
Started out as a rewire a few weeks ago and now have internal stripped out and 350chev about to be removed and install an OB and paint job on internal.
Researched this and stuck on final choice on whether to install a pod or notch the transom to make a well WITH hydraulic jacking plate on the Berty.
Appreciate any comments/experience from anyone who has gone down this path. Notching transom keeps the look of boat but performance wise the pod might be better.
Looking at a 225HP YAMMIE 4stroke on back.

Hydraulic jacking plate.
Are you refering to the hydraulic jacking plate the yanks have on the market. Lifts the motor clear of the water vertically, has infinite adjustment for trimming motor height in the water.
Just bolt it on the transom and off you go. Don't think you need an outboard well.
Comes as a complete made up unit c/w hydraulic pump and rams.

If you go the pod make sure
If you go the pod make sure the bottom follows the hull shape.

Hook Line and Sinker did
Hook Line and Sinker did exactly what you are doing to an old Berty in one of there series, they put a 300Yammie 4 stroke and used a pod.
After it was done it looked ok and went like a shower of shit, handled very well, from memory the pod was glass not ally.
I am sure if you researched their past shows you could find it,may help.
