Best Boat Strategy for WA??

Hello - I am relocating to Perth in August and need some advice on: 1. do I bring my boat or get one there?  I see lots of lakes and a river system - is it worth bringing a fresh water boat over to fish fresh?

What is the smallest, (and still safe), v-hull boat that can be used there in the ocean?  I have looked up the charter companies and they are really expensive to me.  For the last 20years, I have been fishing off of the Yucatan Peninsula for Sailfish, Marlin, Mahi etc..  I also have a tournament BASS boat for fresh water tournaments.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance,

Boats from the US, saves us a fortune.

There are options for river rishing here, as for what size for open ocean i would say 7 meters ideal, 6 will do

As for charters being more expensive here....get used to it, everythings more expensive here

Oh and welcome

Definately bring one over, i

Definately bring one over, i think if you have owned and lived in the states for atleast 12months you are exempt from GST and if it was manufactured in the states you will be exempt from the 5% import duty tax, but you will have to prove all this,

I would say the safest size V - hull would be no less than 6m, but im sure ill be told otherwise, haha

If I was you I would bring

If I was you I would bring one over just because boats in the states are so much cheaper than they are here, and you can do alot of the leg work yourself while your over there.

However I would get a decent V hull boat rather than import a river boat. There are spots where you can fish in the Swan river and the Mandurah estuary on a flat bottomed boat, but in my opinion if you want to get the bigger fish you need to get a bigger boat that can get out to the FADs. (About 50 kms off shore).

Your probably looking around $10k to import a boat so you want to make sure it's a good one.

Also the towing limit here is 2.5 meters wide. If you get a boat that is wider than 2.5m you will need to carry an oversized permit and can only travel during the day and can't go on the freeway. Alot of American boats are wider than 2.5m.

Lakes?

Lots of lakes on  the map, but most are dry- few rivers to fish in though. More options with a 6-7m trailer boat for fishing the deep blue- gives you plenty of options with a trailer boatie travelling north etc

owned a nitro 640 that i used

owned a nitro 640 that i used for tournament fishing over here, and although it was handy during the tournaments, it was pretty much useless for other styles of fishing.  The waterways where tournaments are held here are to small to benefit from a 50knot + boat.  If you are considering fishing tournaments i would be bringing a bay style boat over with you.  I imported a key west bay reef and allows me to fish tournaments one day and catch dollies at the fads another day or billfish up north. hope this helps.

To be honest, the best US

To be honest, the best US boat to bring over would be a good medium size centre console or bay boat like the Key West Bay Reef.

I've seen too many fresh water bass boats go to crap in the salt and with the waters we have you wouldn't get the full benefit of a big donk on a larger bass boat. A bay or CC will be ideal for the many inshore locations we have and still get out offshore on the better days.

JMO as I have had a bass boat here in Oz.
