Best boat for trips away.

 Hi guys and gals.

I own a 580 Formosa and love it (fuel economy) is 1.6 but it’s not suitable for the trips I want to do so in peoples opinion what boat would people buy for long range fishing that can carry four men and kit so a extended hard top is a must.

I’m just after a fishing machine and any suggestions muchly appreciated.

My 7m with diesel I have

Mon, 2018-05-28 18:29

My 7m with diesel I have about 600km usable range. Don’t like carrying fuel on the deck particularly if you are cooking on board.

Mine is all deck but a bit tight for 4 swags. 3 is easy. Week long trips to montes or Abrolhos no problem.

To sleep 4 comfortably you are looking at 7.5m plus range.

Mon, 2018-05-28 18:38

I’m thinking 8m but I’m wondering if I should go a Preston, Coraline, Razorline etc or maybe I’m missing a brand or two I should look at?

Im wondering that with Stabicrafts shape they use less fuel, I’m waiting to find out hopefully tomorrow.

I spoke to Preston and with the 8m with a 350 they said I’d get 1:1 with a 1000lt fuel tank.

My suggestion

Mon, 2018-05-28 19:08

Have a word with the guys at genesis craft. Local boat builder who’s quality of work speaks for itself. A mate has a 4.6m tinnie that they built (all 4mm Ali) and it turns heads at the marina like no other tinnie I have seen. (I mean it does have an 80 tiller steer after all) . But to be honest, they build a quality product, and you are supporting a local economy, a win win I reckon.

I have a 6m Coraline , best boat I’ve owned , def worth having a look at the 7.5m and 8m Coralines. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Awesome rigs with heaps of room , all the fruit and shitloads of fuel capacity

Thanks guys I just sold my big truck for a smaller toyota cruiser so I have kept that in mind.

Believe it or not the misses once something large we can put on a mooring rather then a trailer boat so I have been looking through Boatsonline as well.

Thank for the idea.

best boat for long range

Tue, 2018-05-29 06:14

after 14 boats of various sizes up to 8.2 m (Jackman custom) the best long range Ali factory boat ive ever seen is the Coraline 800 , massive , massive deckspace and well fitted out last i checked around $170k , i have no affiliation with Boat city - quite the contrary i was handled poorly when looking for a boat when i bought the crusher late last year so i went elsewhere but the 8m Coraline is on the wish list!

 Check out Southbound boats.

Tue, 2018-05-29 06:32

Check out Southbound boats. Saw one of theirs on the water and it looked very nice. If I had that coin, I'd be looking at diesel sterndrive. You'd get around 1l per 1.8km's at 25knots out of a Merc or Hyundai V6 265 HP. I tried the "Equity Maate" line on the missus to get a big boat. Didn't fly.

I'm pretty sure if you were going to build one, most builders would be able to accommodate the diesel. Don't forget the site sponsor Chivers. Haven't been on one, but they are supposed to be pretty good.

I read an article about the Northbank who put a lot of diesels in their 750 model, but they are glass.

Preston Craft specialise in

Tue, 2018-05-29 12:31

Preston Craft specialise in exactly what you're looking at. Give them a call and have a look at their range. I had the same model as Vinesh (7.5m) and did over 2,000 hours in it. Did overnighters with up to 4 onboard out at Rankin Bank, Glomar Shoals, week long trips to the Monties/Barrow etc as well as multiple day comps. Put it this way, I should have never sold it and I should have never left WA!

cost

Tue, 2018-05-29 12:47

The question above was pretty vague, the number one compromise being cost-havent seen a figure yet

Plenty of discussion about diesel/petrol etc

If really going remote, its hard to go past twin outboards.
I believe the incidences of fire aboard are lower for outboards than any inboards

I love inboard diesels, but having just one-a bit exposed.
There are better and worse stern drive units of course, but they are a weak point.

ANYTHING can break down no matter how new or well serviced, but also a bottom strike

Look at Redline Marine who are the guys that build Assassin boats for Sportsmarine.

Also worth looking at Westerberg

both places have better pics on Facebook than on their websites.

I want to thank everyone for

I want to thank everyone for the private messages and recommendations but I’m really leaning towards the StabiCraft 2500 Ultracab.

It’s  not carrying the fuel I’d want but the features I do like and I could always carry a bladder.

Thanks again
