Best braid for Barra

 Hi,

I was just wondering what the best braid anyone uses for barra. I currently use 30lb Spiderwire and 30lb Power Pro. I havent had any dramas with those so far but I have just bought a Shimano Stella 4000SW from Oceanside Tackle (thanks heaps for the great deal Oeanside) and want to make sure that I have got a quality braid on it. It will be mostly used for flicking lures and plastics and some occasional trolling. Landed 2 nice barra yesterday up the creek.

Thanks.

I quite like the Daiwa tournament hyper PE (the green one). Super smooth, round and thin. Casts really nice. Did I mention its super smooth? :p

I personnally use Finns

I personnally use Finns Braid on all my Barra Reels. Only because a few Barra addicts i know up in the NT use it and recommended it to me so i got a bulk spool of it back a couple of year ago. Have always found it to be strong, easy to tie knots, doesnt get windknots and very easy to cast with. Havent had a drama with it so far. Hopefully will be giving them all another workout in the NT in April 2013 again :)

I'm with Buz - Finz is the stuff you want.

I lived in Darwin and chased Barra for 32yrs, now I'm in perth for the last 2yrs. I have used heaps of different braids but finz is without doubt the nicest to use, tie knots with, lasts longest etc. In saying that though all my barra gear was with overhead reels. I have some finz on a baitrunner that I use here in perth and its still good

its not cheap but you get what you pay for and in the long run probably works out as a cost saving

I was gonna say ive currently got daiwa tournament on my bc. Your not wrong its super small super thin and casts really well. Not sure i am sold on the abrasion resistance of it. I lost a few barra in the sticks pretty quick but then again it may just have been one bitch of a snag that was holding big fish ( but thats always the case)

Just my 2c

I have used Fins a lot too. I agree with all the above comments about it aside form the casting part. Don't get me wrong it casts ok but not as good as some other brands I've used. You'll get used to it and it will be fine, I like the price and it is a dependable braid with good knot strength etc. but for casting there are better ones out there if that's a determining factor.

Just ordered the Fins XS Braid

Thu, 2012-12-13 17:33

Thanks for the info fellas. I had a look into it and on the Fins website they said that the XS was the best casting braid on the market with the same characteristics as the normal. They said that it was just finished differently to give it that xtra smooth finish for better casting. Bit dearer but Ive got 2000 yards on the way so it should last me a few spools. Cant wait for it to get here!!!!
