best time of year to fish Wagoe?

Hi guys,

Me and a group of mates are thinking of heading north to wagoe to check out the beach fishing. I have read several post's on here with suggestions on rigs and what you can expect to catch. My question is what time of year is normally best to go?

We would be shore based and looking to go for approximately 5 days. Would mainly be chasing larger species such as Snapper, mulla's and perhaps Mackerel.

any info much appreciated.

I was up there last long

I was up there last long weekend (end of Feb) stayed at the chalets. Make sure to prepare for heavy gear loss if fishing off the reef, well worth it. imo

It depends on the swell really... the larger it is the more dangerous/ unfishable it becomes...we had a strong swell while we were there so HEAVY sinkers were the go. Alvey setups also make life easier there too.

If you do decide to go hit up a spot about 1km from the entry. A massive rock stands up in the air against another. Perfect drop off there where you can use the swell to help land the fish, just be quick cos its the first spot taken down the beach. Expect to catch large tailor, skippy, snapper, dartfish, flathead, emporer sweetlip and cod. All were caught when we were there. Quick trip to whitecarra if looking for mulloway. Lost a monster on the last night there on the right side of the entry next to the small surface reef/rocks in the sand of the shore. Perfect gutter system there.

Cheers

Rob

G'day Scanno

Any time from now until June/July depending on swell as said. The whole stretch is firing at the moment for all sorts. Bigger tuna and macks are around at the moment just offshore so balloning is the go around this time of the year. Lots and lots of bait schools and I will be busting them up tomorrow. Yeeee Haaaa

Cheers Mick

Plenty of mulloway and a few snapper. the swell is the dictator when you are up there but if you can find a stretch of beach in between the reefs you can manage to fish in swell up to 3mtrs. We found use plenty of berley and the snapper will come to you!
