Big Ugly Cuttlefish

Out fishing yesterday arvo with a mate and a horrible slimey cuttlefish took his free floating mullie on a snelled rig. Not exactly a tasty pink snapper we were chasing but delicious all the same (his words).

I was diving off parker point and one that size came right up
to my face and just hung there motionless within arms reach staring at me. I just froze and stared back at it. It made a few quick forward and backward darting lunges at my face then shot down and grabbed my computer gauges and wasnt about to let go. After a bit of a tug of war it released and left me alone.. The computer gauge console is bright yellow and then I realised why it was facing me off - I have a small bright yellow dive torch permanently ziptied to the side strap on my mask for night diving. Thank christ he didnt grab that while we were down 20 odd metres could have easily ripped my mask off i probably would have pooped my wetsuit. Dive buddy had a good laugh about it back on the boat.

I catch them in the Cray
I catch them in the Cray snare. Quite funny as if you get them around the tentacles, they cannot ink.

Yup have been known to bite divers
Bloody things are really inquisitive and having that beak attached to anywhere near an appendage be it a nose or ear would not be something anyone should encourage and yes bright yellow seems to really get them interested even torch light.
Still have not got a single bite when using it as bait and the ink is a nightmare around the boat - you can keep em !

that thing looks bloody
that thing looks bloody hideous.
Great to eat though!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

When I was a young kid (long long time ago)
Whilst diving and looking in caves at the north Cottesloe reef I had one of those things dash out from under a ledge and grab my face mask. Scared the absolute hell out of me and just the thought of that day sends a shiver down my spine. The water was only 2-3ft deep but still caused me to panic.
