Bigger boats and Barra.

G'day everyone hope your on the water and not reading this but when you get the chance could you answer a couple of questions?
I've got a 6m Formosa and I'm keen on a Barra trip up north from Hedland but from experiance I don't know a spot were I could launch and use a 6m boat.
I was looking at Derby but I'm told the sound is a muddy desert and your wasting your time.
Ive fished the lower ord and the rock bars make it impossible to run a 6m.
Wyndam?
Beagle bay?
Kulumbaru?
Any help guys would be great as I've got a couple of mates flying over from NSW and I was going to do a few days out of Broome or even a trip to Exmouth but a trip north would be good if we could access a few Barra.
Thanks people.

Why do you want to go north
Why do you want to go north from Hedland. The barra fishing is as good there as it is further north. Saying that..... Wyndham is real big barra country. Love it out there and you don't need to go far to find them.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Because I want to get
Because I want to get away.
The creeks are tidal here and camping on your boat waiting for the next tide to come in so you can get out isn't as fun as it use to be.
Just looking for a boys get away.

can you launch a 6 m boat at Balla Balla?
never been there myself, but you have both barra and offshore species close at hand. edit--when you say rock bars make the lower Ord impossible, how far up are you going? Are you talking about launching out of Kunnunurra, or coming in from the gulf end?

Hi Ranmar
Yes it was the lower ord in my 3.70 Dart, 15hp and take note how you asked me if I was coming in from the gulf end, well I'm sorta hoping someone will explain to me a great area to fish and were to launch etc.
Im just keen to get up into some uncharted waters.

Balla Balla
Opposite Whim Creek hotel, good dirt road normally into Balla, you can launch from the "ramp"" over on the far side into deep water. Best to go on the neap tides so the mud ramp hasn't been covered in water and its easier to launch and retrieve over dried mud. We have put in 25ft boats there and you can go outside the river for additional fishing. Great fishing on the line of reef about 12 miles past the end of Depuche Island. Plenty of fish particularly Macks between Westmore and the mainland, and trout in the shallows. There is also a great creek on the mainland opposite Westmore island where there used to be cyclone moorings. If there has been rain or you are going to get some rain the road in becomes very wet and boggy so best to get out if you can. We have been stuck there for 5 days because of rain. You can camp near the ramp with plenty of sandflies for company or about halfway up the road away from the mangroves next to the creek. Make sure you have a chart.

Hi Wagl
I lived on 'Sherlock' Stn which takes in Balla Balla and the Sherlock itself so I have fished it extensively and it's one of those places I will not visit for some time due to wanting to explore.

Victoria river
Not exactly uncharted but Victoria River sounds like the place for your 6 meter. Good launch ramp at Big Horse creek near Timber Creek and head down river towards the Angalari River. If you can take a small tinny as well it would be a bonus to get up over the rock bars in the Angalari.
I did it a few years ago great fishing we mainly live baited on the back of rock bars on incoming and outgoing neaps and got a couple trolling and throwing SPs and poppers at snags and rock bars. The build up is the best.Do a bit of research on the Vic and the notorious Skeg Rock and you should be good to go.
