Blistering Runs
Submitted by aaasnapper on Mon, 2020-03-23 10:34
Anyone else get blistering runs on set lines targeting snapper only for the fish to spit the bait with no apparrent bite marks on retreival.
It seems like they are only mouthing the bait without biting down?

Sure there not mullys ?
If not go bigger hook single ( not snell) and tighten drag. Have had pinks do as you explained , but they normally crush bait. Mullys run exactly the same . One give away with mully small teeth marks can be seen when you look close. The bait looks in perfect nick.

Mullys
Potentially, were mullys but the ground we were on is more pinky territory out on the five fathom.

yep.
have had a few lateley the same. Good baits on snelled hooks. good run, then dropped. Wait till june/july or after a good blow and they usually go hard...
Landed one the other day, but only 55cm (best eating size in my opinion).
Keep at it..

Dolphins ?
Had similar years ago chasing mulloway in bunbury harbour. After awhile we realised it was dolphins.

Kingys or sambos, I've been
Kingys or sambos, I've been made piss a few times inshore randomly where I'll cop a roasting in amongst a school of skips only to have the placcie spat back at me with no leader chafing or placcie damage i suspect sambos as last time it happened i moved off and a few hundred meters away was a massive school of rat sambos busting bait up on the surface and sitting over a lump mixed in with a few solid pinks and buff bream. Dropped the go pro over the side for some cool pics
