blowie bait

does anyone ever use filleted blowfish meat as bait for catching yellowtail whiting etc when blowies are thick.I went to the ammo jetty this morning with only 2 herring that I thought would be O.K. but they were not real fresh.I caught a blowie and cut strips of the tail without busting the belly and started getting yellowtail whiting and small skippy. The other blowies virtualy ignore it.I was given some fresh mulie when the rain came and everyone left but it did not last 2 seconds in the water.I was using a small white bait gang about size 6.

heard of people using it
Heard of guys using blowies before. They peel them and use them for crab baits as well. Not sure how they peel them.

Blowie crab bait
Many a time I've used blowies for crab bait. No need to do anything other than stab a few holes in them and wire them in the net, they work fine and cost zilch. Just put a fish oil soaked rag over the back of the boat and scoop up what you want with a prawn net and there you go carb bait at no cost.

+1 for blowies as crab bait
Especially in Peel/Harvey estuary. Keeps my 6yo occupied catching heaps of blowies with nothing but a green straw on a hook. We then we poke a few holes in each, stuff 3 or four in those mesh bait bags and secure the bag to drop nets when crabbing. The blowies seem to last longer than the usual crab bait like mullet, lambs necks, spleen etc.

As above
Have used Blowies as bait for fishing and crabbing. However they are a pain in the bum to skin and/or fillet to get baits so mostly as above for crabbing. Usually add a mulie to the baits so it attracts the crabs first, but other blowies smash that, and the crabs stay to chew on the dead blowies, which the other blowies dont like.

I have caught blowies with blowies as bait, even bream and herring in the swan. Otherwise the crab bait idea sounds good.

Nw blowies great bait
If I am bait fishing and catch one, I'll always keep it for bait. Skin just pulls off, actually caught a nice baldchin last time out on a big strip hanging off the end of an 8/0 circle hook meant for a jewie. Everything seems to eat them ,use them up north as well.

Use them a bit out there for
Use them a bit out there for something different, stays on hook good and easy to skin. Not as good as other fresh fish but probably on par with other baits.
