Blue Groper on soft plastic
Submitted by veitch1993 on Mon, 2016-02-01 16:12
A glorious day in Augusta using soft plastics when I got a zinger of a run. After a decent fight I pulled this one up by the ass!
The setup was a Shimano raider with 20lb line and 25lb leader.
It was my first blue groper by the way!

out of canal on a big swell ,
out of canal on a big swell , lol
bet you had fun at the ramp timboon ??
groper ime don't like to chase a bait too quickly so you often hear of blokes getting them on slow drift or glass of days , its like they will not chase a fast drifting bait [.8-1.5 knots ] but with no wind or a glass off day they will pick up a bait or jig as it slowly drags across hard coral bottom , every one iv caught has fitted this pattern
the blown rear seal thing makes them poor release candidates usually

Yep swell was 3m @ about 13
Yep swell was 3m @ about 13 sec Hezzy, Getting the dingi off is never a drama but because of electric trim/tilt it makes it difficult coming in hot driving it on but i fluked it and we nailed it and were outa there unscathed but what a mongrel of a ramp!!
Its been a couple of years since i've gone north to Canals, I've been huntin Hamelin/Augusta more in recent times but i do have a spot out wide that i'm really keen to get back to but it will definately be on a smaller swell day!!
On a positive note, we had the carpark to ourselves :)
