Bluebone Nursery last weekend
Last weekend went out from Dampier Saturday and the forecast was not right as the wind blew up. Was planning to go to Rosalie shoal or outer patch for trolling and bottom bounching.
Not comfortable so ended up in the lea and found the motherload of small to just undersize Blue bone. 4 of us fishing with bait, jigs and SP must have landed about 100 of these babies, to the point of calling them blowfish.
Even though they became a nuisance, it does look good for the future.
Also has anyone come across such a concentration of baby BB, as I found it odd in my fishing experience.

PS caught some good other fish but all for fun. Hooked a Black whaler we think that lumped 3m, then snapped the 40lb leader and then decided to free jump about 4m in the air 6m behind the boat just to show us he can get into the boat. Jenny on board also trolled up on a red head popper a 90+cm Jumping freak Queenfish that was awesome to watch.

That's very interesting Neels
As you say, it is a good sign that the fishery is healthy.

Heaps of them in the
Heaps of them in the shallows around Big Turtle island. Cnat get a bait past them. Max size around 30cm. There are a few bigger ones there though.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yeah Dodgy
Thats what we found. Could catch anything through the plague of little BBones. Didnt see a bigger one unfortunately but we were not using crab.
Cheers

Bone action
South side of Eaglehawk Is and also Tozer Is used to be like that with Juvenile 'Bone from time to time. Its interesting that you mention it Crasny1 as it was around this time of year in the past that they seemed to aggregate in those areas.

Interesting
I think they are to young to spawn. Must be some reason for such a concentration.
Anyway heading out again this week. Try a different spot and see. We generally sportsfish and only take a very few fish for a nights feed, so we dont tend to go deep and we will see what the weekend holds. If this happens again might contact fisheries and see if they have any clues. They were as thick as herring on the boil.
I just shook my head with everyone that came over the side.

i saw planty of blackspot
i saw planty of blackspot tuskfish (the big bluebones) out at enderby on saturday when diving in the shallows, not many of the usual bluespot tuskfish which was strange but there is plenty out there and i'm starting to look in places i usually don't and finding good fish.
Some nice trout too, probably 8 on this one bit of very shallow reef with 2 monster 80cm plus troutasaurus lurking there too, oh to have a spear gun! got a leagl 47cm trout on 6kg barra outfit that made me work very hard too.

I sure was. Never a dull moment
But when good fish "turn" to blowies because you are bored catching them, and you wait with baited hook for something else, it looses some shine. Changed down to a bream rod and it WAS fun again. Little buggers can pull!!!

Sounds like you may have
Sounds like you may have come across a heap of Blue tuskfih Neels which I reckon usually max out at around 400-500 (can only recall a couple legal ones which weren't worth taking anyhow) be very surprised if they were Blackspots esp eating you out of the boat like that cos even undersized one are finicky buggers. The Blackspots def have a hankering for softys and octo jigs and have caught quite a few on my bttom fishing sessions since deploying these.

Thanks for the heads up Mick, they certainly was not finicky
and thus I am sure you are right. I did call them for blackspots, and a few I had a good look at was, but certainly we gave up double checking them. Just got them off the hook and in the drink.
I was very surprised at the ease and quantity of these. Now I am a little happier. At least that explains something.
Cheers mate
