With Oz dollar at 80 cents,

With Oz dollar at 80 cents, not sure this makes sense any more mate. I did mine when it was 1.07 and it was definately cheaper, but at 80 cents I recon it would be line ball with buying in Oz.

Don't believe the crap they tell you on import costs, it is always more.

I think i got mine at about 1.09 the highest i think it went. It was the best thing i ever did!

I wouldn't do it now with the dollar, no way!

US imports seem to be going pretty cheap in aus nowdays.

If you do import go with Justin @ Portsea ( site sponsor) They are brilliant. If you have any specific questions i can help you with pm me.

JohnF is on the money here -

JohnF is on the money here - not only is the boat more in terms of AUD but shipping is calculated in USD as well, add in GST and import duty if it is not a US manfactured boat (exempt if US built) fumigation and i reckon you will struggle to get anything under 40k - the US economy is imporving so there are no more firesale prices that existed a few years ago
If i were you i would keep an eye out for bargains here on your doorstep...

$15K USD boat price = about

$15K USD boat price = about $40K AUD landed in your yard with the dollar the way it is.

Have a look at sportfishingboats and those guys on facebook and all of their landed prices are up about $10K on this time last year.

If you're looking to import a $100K boat then the $15K in shipping etc is easier to swallow. When the boat and the shipping are the same price it doesn't make sense.

Hi Surfymuzz

There are still plenty of good buys in the states, you have to look a litle harder to find them, just as the guys that brought boats in prior to the GFC did.

It was an unusaul situation for some time with the dollar at parity and cheap boats galore.

Give me a call anytime and I can go over the costs with you.

Cheers

Justin
