boat launching in Broome

Only 4 weeks away from heading to Broome for 2 weeks.

I understand is beach launching up there but where is the most suitable spot to launch a glass boat.

Don't fancy running up on a beach full of rocks

It's all pretty average.

It's all pretty average. Entrance point and slipway ramps face in 2 different directions but good idea to have a look at low tide so you can get a good idea of where all the hazards are.
Id be very cautious if there is any chance of the wind coming up for the retrieve part. Can be downright dangerous there.
Appalling that such a major town doesn't have any decent facilities.

Cheers for that. Definitely

Cheers for that. Definitely worth checking out the ramp at low tide . Don't fancy putting a rock through the hull

They have got a planned ramp in the drawing stage , weather it goes ahead or not who knows

 I've launched a 6.6

Fri, 2023-04-07 19:35

I've launched a 6.6 trailcraft out from cable Beach. Sand is hard but a third wheel is needed, recover is no problem we pulled it out with a snatch strap. No rocks! Park well above high tide.  Launching near the wharf has a few rocks and more tide dependent,  best way to get into Dampier Creek though.

 As dodgy said Entrance point

Sat, 2023-04-08 07:35

As dodgy said Entrance point off the beach but be wary of the wind and incoming tide as it can be hard to hold a boat if windy and soft sand can catch you out on spring tides if incoming. The other ramp (west) at entrance may be better for a glass boat but the current can push you around a bit. Gantheame point is too shallow for launching a glass boat. Everything seems to have gone quiet up here regarding our shit facilities and what they are proposing is an absolute joke that will make it even harder to launch and retreive.

I won't be here when it finally happens.

Message me when you get here Russ and will give you some info.

I've been involved in launching and retrieving a few times from Entrance Point and also retrieving from the slipway ramp. Just be very mindful of the wind Russ as it makes it bloody tricky at times.

I believe the funds were lined up for a proper ramp but there was some issue and the funds built a lovely marina that is not used enough at Augusta. Only basing this on what I've heard.

Augusta gets as busy as any

Tue, 2023-04-11 19:11

Augusta gets as busy as any other ramps on the good days, especially holiday seasons.plus there's the pro boats that work out of there.quiet days are usually due to the good old southern ocean getting angry with its 4m+ swells and a 30 knot breeze to go with it

Fair enough Bodgy. I've only been there a couple of times and it looked like a bloody good facility without a lot of boats. I'll take it from someone who knows!

 Politics in play Dave labour

Tue, 2023-04-11 18:04

Politics in play Dave labour member here not down there at the time. That was 10 years ago. What is proposed now is just straight out a bandaid that will be bloody dangerous with the tides and prevailing wings all year around. A lot of negative groups that want Broome to be a backwater for ever but they have a lot of say as to what happens up this way.

Not going to worry me as out of here in a few months and sold the big boat a few years ago now, as I was over the expense of wrecking a car every year or so. The 3.7 cartopper works for me nowadays.

It is sad as this is a world class fishery with a huge potential.

Will point Russ in the right direction when he is here.

Fishing for trout in the rivers and streams in that area is one of my favourite things to do. Those who do it regularly and get local knowledge do bloody well.
