Boat Leaking

 Hello All

Got a quick question regarding a leaking 480 quintrex coast runner. It started all of a sudden one day got back to the ramp and around 20liters came out didnt think to much about it untill the next trip out and the same happened.

So i started to try and find the problems ripped up the floor and started filling with water to see if any water was visable on the outside of the hull... Nothing....

Noticed there are some spots where paint has started to bubble and the bungs dont leak.

Its got me stumped. Any suggestions?????

Cheers Josh

Check where your bung is

Check where your bung is attached to the hull. Might need some new silicone.

Bung plugs or bung assembly?

Mon, 2017-06-26 10:06

My boat was taking in water recently also. The paint under the bung assembly was bubbling causing water to leak in from under the bung assembly. Removed them and installed new assemblies using marine sikaflex as mentioned in another comment on this post. All good now.

My 480 quintrex had water coming into the hull somewhere too, turned out that one of the bolts holding the motor on wasn't sealed properly which let the water slowly seep in

Silicon

Do not use silicon, its acid based, use marine Sikaflex.

I found the water

Sun, 2017-06-25 18:01

coming in from my drain scuppers on the port and starboard side. The white plastic had a crack on the thread under the locking nut.

Took them both out and welded them both up. Has been a few boats come to grief from the fault. Quintrex did not want to no about it.

Good luck.

 Has the hull got

Sun, 2017-06-25 21:03

Has the hull got electrolisis or spots of white powder on the inside of the hull? Sometimes filling the hull up with water wont cause enough pressure for water to seep out but when on the water its got a lot of pressure to push it in ..

if possible lift a hatch in the floor near the rear and reverse the boat and trailer into the water , leave it attached to trailer and jump in , look in the hatch , if water runs down the inside of the hull to the back then you probably have pin sized holes under fuel tanks etc up front

I've completed ripped up the floor so should be able to see where it's coming in. What should I do if they are pinholes

The scuppers were the source of a leak in mine. There is a hose from the outside scupper connecting to the drain on the deck. It had a split in it.

any decent ali welder will be able to fix pinholes
just make sure they drill them out oversize first to get rid of any corrosion ....then reweld.

happens to many ali boats.

EDIT: just realised its a quinny.: how thick is the hull ?

Mine was the same. Found the lower motor bolts to be leaking. The silicon had completely broken away from the hole. Best way is to fill it up on the trailer. I had to get water up to the floorboards for it to really start flowing.
