Boat name registration

 Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is a boat name register?

The names (not rego numbers) that you see on the side of boats is something that seems like you'd want to keep unique, for ego purposes as well as identification and sea rescue etc. But after a search of the Dept of Transport website, I can't see anything about registration of boat names.

Any advice?

Dept of Transport are only interested in your registration number as there are many recreational boats with the same names ---Wahoo--Reel screamer---reel affair etc and so on . This is a problem for sea rescue here in Carnarvon when we get boats from out of our regions logging on with the same names as locals boats and they get a pooppy on when we ask for rego numbers and a shore based contact phone number.

The only way for us to find out who owns a missing boat is by contacting Dot or Water Police

For pro boats they are only allowed one boat with that name in the state, if you want to keep the name you have to add the 1-2 -3 or what number in order of application to follow after that name.
