The size required for the front oversize sign is ridiculous for cars. I put it to them a few years ago when I got my oversize boat that cars be able to display a sign half the size of the minimum required which they were quite receptive to and were going to look at implementing but it must of just gone to the bottom of their pile.

That is a good guide, lays it out fairly simply.
Somewhere I have a pic of the DOT guys towing one of their own boats, with the overwidth sign on the boats windscreen.

Saw it at a petrol station and went back to query and take a pic.

They just said "we cant put it anywhere else"

Split soft signs

Fri, 2018-03-02 11:46

I use the split soft vinyl signs on my landcruiser. I occy strap them either side of the bull bar just under the headlights. Works well. I also have the hard one piece sign that drops in my rear bait board holes on the boat got the rear sign.

Oversize signs

Fri, 2018-03-02 22:55

We were pulled over on the way to Jurien and asked where our front sign was.

We told them it covered the grill therefore stopping airflow to the radiator. They suggested we placed the sign on the boat, so we did. All good !

We launched at 4:45am, so missed them, but I believe they were there later. Reports certainly made me put my oversize signs on, even though I live 500 metres from the ramps :-)
