Bore Pump Motor

I need to replace the electric motor on my submersible bore pump. The price currently being quoted is extremely high to what my expectations where and I wonder if you guys have any previous knowledge or experience on the actual costs. Pioneer 5A/12C submersible pump motor. Apologies for this being out of line with a fishing forum

$1600 to remove supply and
$1600 to remove supply and install a new submersible pump is very good! My grundfoss pump is $2000+ on its own! If you decide to do it yourself i have a manual drum winch for pulling them up!

Do you know.
Do you know why the motor failed? and how old is it. Submersible pump motors will die premeturely if the pump is not installed correctly.

The pump was installed about
The pump was installed about 8+ years ago and though I have nothing to gauge it on I would have thought they would last longer than that. The proposed contractor claims the unit is overheating, that's possible as the water table has dropped. I imagine if it was installed incorrectly it would have failed earlier! Its difficult to tell with this character as he is all bluff and bluster and though he appears to know his business 75% of what comes out of his mouth is pure BS
