Borroloola NT March 2014
Submitted by BarraSlayer on Mon, 2014-06-09 22:00
Here are some pictures from my March Trip to my folks place at Borroloola, 260km east of the NT/QLD boarder in the Gulf or Carpentaria. The bigger fish are land based, fishing the Macarthur River crossing 2kms from town. Using mostly soft plastic with a very slow retrieve either at sunset or sunrise. Chronarch e7200 & G Loomis 5 8'. Got a couple of pigs too which was a bonus.

That looks like some allround
That looks like some allround fun there.
I was up that direction this time last year, wanted to head up to Borroloola from Gregory Downs but from all reports the track was pretty average and we weren't quite kitted out for pretty average so we went the long way round - back to Burke and Wills and around from there. Sounds (and looks) like a pretty special part of Oz.
Cheers for the pics bs.

very nice mate - good to see
very nice mate - good to see some pigs too!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Hey Syd, the big ones start
Hey Syd, the big ones start travelling then! December is usually good. I use the bom website river gauge on Macarthur river to tell me what the river is doing I.e. don't want to arrive to full flow & dropping couple of days after first decent rain is really good (1.7m to 2.5m) is a good height.
If you go earlier the are awesome spots further down the Savannah Way road at the Robinson and Culvert Rivers.

Normally just take the whole
Normally just take the whole head or bottom jaw as a trophy and leave the rest for the others and dingos to eat. Also if you come back a few days later it brings more pigs in. There's heaps of pigs but also heaps of water so don't see as many as u would like.
