It isn't really a productive

It isn't really a productive technique but when the bream are fired up it's worth a shot. Wait until you have a session where they seem really aggresive and throw some small poppers/walkers around. Shallow water over flats, usually cloudy days and still water will increase your chances.

I thought that it was choppy water because the calm water makes them more timid

Poppers

Fri, 2011-05-13 19:17

I have caught bream on popper a river2sea scumdog in walpole.
The fish would only bite for 1 hr after first light before theyd switch off
and then just before sunset.
Great way to fish for them gets the adreniline pumping, casting into the snags and walking it out was good sometimes a long pause would bring the fish up to your lure and wouldnt strike so a quick pause and twitch is better imo.

I have got them in South Oz on warm (35+ in the middle of summer) still evenings, poppers with orange on the underside seem to work the best.

Breaming on surface can be

Sat, 2011-05-14 08:44

Breaming on surface can be VERY productive, the biggest factor if finding the correct ground to target fish on surface. Look for flats with reeds along the bank, if the flat is covered with weed thats a good sign also, there is many placing in the canning like this. I would steer more toward a topwater walking style lure then a popper, something like a bassday sugarpen70 or a megabass dog-x jnr even smith towadi's are really good. I have caught fish during the middle of the day on surface but generally fish thing in the morning is best.
