Bream report

Hi crew, Ive been a bit busy with work, but  managed a few days on the river last week.

With the rains at Easter, the upper river started to go brown realy quick, this kickstarted the Bream to head towards Perth holding up in deep corners along the way.

For me, the lures have not been working, both plastics and hard bodies. So i resorted to the old bait again and started to land some fish.

Some of the bait i use. Mullet cubes and River Prawns.

When the Bream run at this time of year, you realy need to search out the best snags, drop off's and structure. Snags like this one just can't be over looked.

Get the bait or lure into the edge of the stucture and if you don't get hit, get it into all that mess and hope for the best.

Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win.

Other areas to spend some time can be right in your face, don't be scared to investigate them, even if they are right on someones door step but respect their property.

This spot produced a very nice fish right on dark, but i didn't have the camera on. I asked a fellow fisher to a snap shot and was quite happy with the result.

I was even more happy to see this old beast swim away again, I hope someone else gets the pleasure to hold a ( now becoming rare ) beauty like this.

Cheers Grant ..

Couldn't agree more with that advice especially putting it in all that mess bit and hope for the best. Nice fish. Your saving people a lot of time and effort by not having to nut it out themselves

 Good work, nice looking bream.

what rig do you use? Just a ball sinker running down to the bait or unweighted?

I use the techniques shown in this video over and over again without fail. Just have to go through lots of fish to get a few big ones.

Wow, great video there Grant. One of the best how-to videos I've seen on fishing the Swan.

Thanks heaps for posting up your technique for others like me to learn. Will chuck the rod in the car tomorrow and give it a shot after work. Really appreciate guys like yourself sharing some of the knowledge you have.

Thanks for the kind words.
All the techniques I use from the canoe can be applied from the shore as well.
Use google maps to find areas you can access that are not easy to get to. Also helps with picking a spot when its windy.
Nearly every spot I go to is more about keeping out of the wind rather than I want to fish that particular area.
But over time you will accumulate enough spots that you always have a choice no matter what the conditions are.
I also fish ( almost exclusively ) the rising tide to the peak, and if this coincides with sun up, or sun down your catch rate will improve a great deal
Cheers Grant .

 Cheers Grant, I headed down

Thu, 2016-04-07 19:56

Cheers Grant, I headed down to Garrat Rd bridge, on the Southern bank this arvo and walked along casting into the next snag in front of me as I went and had a productive afternoon catching and releasing about 10 smaller Bream and a few grunter in a short session. Satisfied the fishing urge for the arvo anyway.

i will have to do some walking and find a few more out of the way spots to see if I can find some bigger models.

how do you adjust the predicted tide times? Is there a chart out there somewhere with tide corrections to apply to either the Fremantle or Barrack St times?
