Bremer Bay/South Coast Unknowns

Hi Guys,

I'm new to fishwrecked so I thought I would kick things off with a WTF are these. I'm from Perth and I'm normally aware of fish identification but these little critters I got recently in Bremer Bay have me stumped mainly because I have not caught them before. All were realeased naturally. We went to Bremer Bay/Cheynes in the hope of maybe a salmon or a large landbased fish (queenie, groper, sambo). However we ended up with a mixed bag which included; 2 bronze whalers(sized and kept), Skippy,Herring, Sweep, Eels, Buffalo Bream, Squid, Whiting, Wrasse galore and, even a bullseye and more to the point not 1 blowie!! The shark captures along with 4 wheel driving was more then enough too justify the long trip and I will get my Salmon in a few months.

I know these are nothing special and possibly some peoples cray bait but I am just curious as to what they are. Thanks in advance.

I cant put an ID on the top

Wed, 2012-02-08 13:58

I cant put an ID on the top fish, looks similair to some of the Zebrafish I get when buff bream fishing, but doesnt have the stripes. The second is a Western Wirrah. great for for the neighbours to eat (y) That thirs picture is also hard to ID becausde of the angle of the fish. Very similar to a Blackass (breaksea cod) just wrong head structure.

Sounds like I was right in throwing them back apart from maybe the Breaksea Cod in terms of taste?
