Big hooks, big wire, big bait, big wait, big reel, big rod. Don't think I missed anything.

 7/0 circle with a live

Sun, 2017-02-26 16:56

7/0 circle with a live whiting 5 meters below a float... 50lb mono 100lp trace, I get plenty around the 1~1.5m mark using that rig. Have your bait any higher in the water column and I seem to get hammers of a similar size, that's just fishing over sandy ground for whiting in 12m. If you want smaller sharks to eat live baits such as whiting, herring or yellowtail  are the way to go (that's what I've found anyway, alll mine have been caught in the boat)

For the bigger sharks 2~3.5m same rig but with a full mullet on gangs, if I put that rig out 80% of the time we will hook up. This is just over areas where you catch sand whiting between Mandurah and warnbro sound. No burley ever used and you don't need big baits to get big sharks.

all the larger sharks we've caught have been tigers, got a 2.5m one 3 weeks ago and last year ones upto 3.5m.

 Hi! Callum,

I was trying to catch them from by boat out of Bunbury?

All i seem to catch is Gurnard and wrasse.

So thought i would actually target something edible

That's a big bitey to have at the side of your boat when you have been giving it some jip for the better part of an hour.

large live baits

Mon, 2017-02-27 18:50

Think big Spanish Mackerel, Rankins Cod, Dhu, Spangled Emperor, large YFT, Red Emperor,   or if you want them superdeep, Ruby Snapper usually seem to bring them, apparently. Have I missed anything?  oh, yes, Timboon reckons big Coral Trout work a treat . Although the best bite I ever had on big bronzies was with a whole, large live sailfish.
