Bronzie Weekend! Ledge Point, WA
Submitted by jarrad.lachlan on Mon, 2012-12-17 15:13
Went up to Ledge Point on the weekend, about an hour and a half trip North of Perth with 4 mates. fished on 2 occasions, saturday and sunday for about 10 hours each session. The result was 7 Bronzies, all between 1 metre and 1.5 metres. Also one huge Black Ray. All using heavy overhead combos, (TLD 30, TLD 50, TYRNOS 30, TALICA 20) and kayaking baits off the beach. seaweed became an annoying issue that had to be delt with, and also the heavy waves off the first 10m of the beach while on the kayak, but once your out there its easy. Bait was Mullet and Blue Mackie. 7 Bronzies, cant complain, decent effort for a few 15 year olds. (Jarrad Lachlan, Jake Florenca, Bailey Ullrich, Tim Larcher, Jesse Mirco)

well done guys, looks like
well done guys, looks like you were having a ball!
At the very real risk of sounding like an old fart, its really great to see young blokes doin this sort of stuff instead of other mischief.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Yeah all of the sharks were
Yeah all of the sharks were caught on balloon, 5/7 caught only 150m out just dropped in front of a reef! Also yes they were all caught at day, we fished from 8am- 4pm, then the next day 4am to 2pm. (Due to the swell, we figured it was alot calmer in the mornings but to choppy to kayak at night. cheers guys

Yeah we were chasing the big
Yeah we were chasing the big ones on the big mackies, but no bites only the small mullet were getting the small bronzies. a few locals told us that the big ones are out at night, but it was just to choppy to kayak out there.

Rigs?
Hi Jarrad, Fantastic catch you fellas have got there. just wondering how you go about setting up for this kind of fishing? Bait size? rig type? Ganged hooks? weighted ?
I just got myself my first 4WD and am keen to give it a go, ive had a yak for a while now to and always wanted to try fishing from it

We used full mullet for bait
We used full mullet for bait around 15-20cm long. with a 2 hook wire rig, (150lb wire with 10/o - 12/o hooks, crimps etc). you only have to kayak about 150m, and while your on the kayak you have to sinker. (tie a heavy sinker atleast a 12 ounce to a spool of line, let out the line until the sinker hits the bottom, cut the line, then tie it on to the swivel on your wire rig) it keeps your balloon in the same spot so it doesnt drift back to shore.

Dont make the rig to long
Dont make the rig to long about 1.5m because its not that deep and u want ur bait near the surface, and if you keep loosing sinkers to weed, snags etc just use half a brick (from a house) to sinker your bait so your not constantly loosing sinkers haha.
