Bunbury - The cut
New to Bunbury and had done some research on this forum so I decided to try the cut for some tailor last night on the full moon.
Didn't bring down my proper fishing rod as my car was filled up and was worried I might snap it when I moved down but I had my travelling rods with me.
Got to the cut at sunset and tried casting weightless mullies on my travel rod and it snapped. Figured I was already here and there was no point crying bout it during the golden period so I just casted lures with my backup rod.
Managed 10 tailor in an hour but they were all 28-29cm. Went quiet soon after 8.30. Was plenty of fun on the light gear but I was hoping that I could have at least kept 1.
Was just wondering if the cut have bigger tailor than that?

Kai

Not Really
Dont seem to get them much bigger in there unfortunately, although i did get one one in the estuary that went 40cm while chasing whiting on poppers. Head up to Myalup or south to Dalyellup beaches, they seem to be bigger and more reliable at those beaches. Also, i use a cast net in the estuary for small gang size mullet which i've found to be a good bait for the tailor/Mulloway.
hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for the tips guys!
I tried the cut because it was close by and I didn't feel like driving 50km to get a bite. Was also to explore Bunbury. It was a nice day out though yesterday. Sunset was beautiful and the dolphins were just lingering around.
Harropino, I was just wondering whereabouts in dalyellup beach? I won't be requiring a 4wd will I? I don't have one.
Mandurah Matt, are you referring to the beach at the end of casuarina drive?

If ur chasing decent size
If ur chasing decent size tailer then u will need to go a bit further out of bunbury. Myalup as mentioned is a safe bet, or there is buffalo and belvedere beach which is closer to bunbury. Eithet that or head to dalyellup. If u want to get to more remote spots then u will need a 4wd. But all of these beaches can be accessed with a 2wd and a short walk from the carpark
Good things come to those who bait.

Thanks turtl3tim, I tried
Thanks turtl3tim,
I tried casuarina point yesterday. It looked promising initially but I only caught tailor around the 28cm mark with bait and metal twisties. I just fished off the rocks. There were some locals there but they were keeping the undersized fish they were catching. I might try dalyellup when I'm not working another day.
