The Busso Jetty Report 2-11-12
Fishing on the jetty has been a bit on again off again over the past few weeks especially with the Tailor. The most consistent fish recently has been Snook with numbers in plague proportions making it difficult to catch other species at night. I caught aprox 40-50 Snook in one session this week throwing most of them back since they are quite bony. If you don't mind eating the Snook some real monsters can be caught right on sunset close to the pylons and can be found along the entire length of the jetty. Tailor have been a bit inconsistent with hardly any being caught last week but heaps being caught the week before. If you are heading out to throw some mulies at them check seabreeze.com and head out on the nights the SW winds are blowing at 15knots or more, the stronger the SW winds and the more chop the better. Herring numbers have been down over the past week probably due to the Snook but a good feed can still be caught on sunset on the Dunsbrough side of the jetty. Squid have been quite consistent at night and have been quite large, I caught some huge ones this week while throwing mulies around for tailor. During the day Gardies can be caught out in the deeper water, just keep the burley going and they will hang around. Sampson fish are still hanging around towards the end in the morning chasing the bait fish. Small King George whiting have started to turn up on the sand bank at the bend of the jetty, try fishing for them on the Bunbury side near the first shelter. Two Bronzies were seen feeding last week right up near the first platform and I have heard reports of them hanging around for a few days but no-one has hooked them up. Crab numbers have been down but I have heard reports of them being over at Quindalup boat ramp.
That is all for this report, tight lines and good fishing.

I dont ask names of people when I see things caught, I know the guy that hooked it at the first scaling board though, I find out about most fish being caught out the jetty specially the mulloway, I just like to find out what others see. I have caught everything that can be caught out the jetty as I have few years experiance out there

Just got back from a sunday
Just got back from a sunday night fishing session, the weather was rougher this weekend than I thought it might be, got rained on fairly hard and there was even some hail throwen into the mix. Landed 2 tailor and some herring, didn't clean up but got a good feed. I met a couple of perth members who were down for the weekend, good to talk to someone from the forums while out on the jetty.

Right, might as well give a
Right, might as well give a brief report on our w'ends efforts. Thanks to Jetty Rat for the report just before we got down, made things a bit easier having a heads up, unfortunately i wasnt there to meet you sunday night as i had to be back in Perth.
Friday night we got down and to the jetty around 10:30. There was quite a decent wind up but decided to throw the squidjigs in. I managed the first after about 15-20mins and was a fairly nice size. Then my brother managed another 2 slightly smaller one and i wrapped up with 3 more small ones to make a feed. All squid were taken on pink jigs, mine a shimano egi exile and the other a yo-zuri.
Saturday went out into the wind again but only managed one squid which was of a decent size. He joined the others for a saturday lunch of fresh squid.
Saturday night was windy and rainy and unfortunately didnt manage anything.
After seeing water conditionds were rather murky we tried for a fish on sunday. Must say that the wind was absolutely howling but there was a very brief lul where we managed to get about 3 nice size sand whiting and a single garfish. These were caught at the sand patch at the bend of the jetty. We were then promptly blown off the jetty!!
I had to leave sunday night but my father and brother went out into the wind and rain again but only managed a herring on a lure. They did however bump into the Jetty Rat, so not all bad.
Basically the conditions were terrible for a w'end away, but we still managed a good feed of squid and had fun trying which is all you can ask i guess........ Even if we did get a wet ass!!
Cheers, Steve

Good to see you had fun
Good to see you had fun despite the miserable conditions. The storm murked up the water very quickly. Went out again tonight managed a large pike and a decent tailor, the old boys cleaned up on the smaller herring using straw.

Use a bloob to fish for
Use a bloob to fish for herring on the surface, or try using halco twisties size 20g or gillies whitebait metals. Try to avoid sinkers. Use unweighted gang hooks size 3/0 to fish for tailor, just chuck it in and give it a slow retreval. Always have a squid jig handy. If you have a trolley or old pram use it to wheel your gear out, it will save your arms big time. Bring a rope to tie your bucket handle with so you can lower it down to collect water. Bring warm clothes and a thermos with coffee it helps if you plan to stay out for a while.

Thanks! Actually I am not a big fan of tailor, snook is my favorite fish. My friends told me there is some monster snook there. Which part of the jetty is the best spot for snook and squid? And also is there any whitings around?

Anywhere after the bend is
Anywhere after the bend is good ( 2nd half of the jetty ), it is all weed banks after the bend so that is where you find the squid. Snook can be found all along the entire length.

Really?
Snook is you favourite fish? There are literaly millions of them in Geo Bay, I know of a few areas where you can get them 3ft+ all the time.
What do you do with them, just the smell puts me off

I live in Perth but I don't mind to do some driving.
Thanks!

The ones we used to catch
The ones we used to catch Koma were caught at Grey which is south of Cervantes. But we used to get them trolling from a boat with mulies. I think you'll get all along the coast over the shallow weed banks. If land based I'd be trying the Parmelia Bank/Owen anchorage side of Woodman's point. Fairly shallow and weedy type bottom there.

Keep up the good reports 'TheJettyRat'
I'm mainly a boat fisherman but love reading your reports mate.
Ignore all the keyboard fisherman that are always negative and think just because they don't like something, everyone else should dislike it too, it's because they hardly fish themselves anyway.
And I'm with you sea-kem! The smart arse negative attitudes shit me too and it's evident they consistently come from a select few.

Bonito
Bonito have not been out the jetty for a few years or out in geographe bay, they used to always be there. It is good to hear they have turned up out from the metro area and both species, with the leaping bonito not seen in geographe bay for a long time. I hope they turn up again down this way. many years ago the bonito fishing was shoulder to shoulder out the end of the jetty when you could still fish there and the bluefin tuna turned up in febuary aswell and they have not shown up for ages

Towed lures in Geo Bay today for Bonito. Only got a small southern blue. It is still a bit early for bonito. Used to show up around christmas time. Havnt seen a bonito for 5 or 6 years though.

Bit of an unpdate. The jetty
Bit of an unpdate. The jetty has been a bit quiet over the past week, herring havn't been firing to after dark and there hasn't been many tailor out there, I know that they are around but they are up and down the beaches but not out deeper. There are still some nice squid to be had though and if you are after snook there are still heaps of them. Things will change out on the old girl in about a month, it is just the inbetween time at the moment.
