Butane bbq question

Hi all

I'm in the early planning stage for a possible Kimberley boat trip next year and have been tossing around the idea of taking a 2 burner butane bbq. I see the U-Bute brand 2 burner unit is heavily discounted right now (from their website).

My biggest worry is the ever present petrol fumes from what's in the boat's fuel tank, as well as the numerous jerry cans that we'll have to carry onboard.

I'm thinking the baitboard would make a good cooking platform for the bbq, and was wondering if any of you guys have any thoughts on whether this type of bbq (or any other gas fuelled unit) would be ok on the boat or are we inviting trouble, having a naked flame in close proximity to potential fuel fumes.

I realise that you'd want to move the jerries up the front while cooking, but am I worrying too much over nothing.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I've got a Gasmate butane

I've got a Gasmate butane BBQ, brand new ready for summer. The whole fuel thing has crossed my mind too, despite having my fuel under-floor.

Ill probably use the bait board but otherwise I have seen some nifty BBQ mounts which use the side rod holders.  Might be a bit safer as it will get it away from the motor, fuel lines etc.

I'm sure, with plenty of ventilation, it would be fine.

The explosive gasses will only build up in a confined space.

Thanks guys for your comments.

The further I can get the bbq away from the fuel tank, the safer it would be. I'll look at making a bracket that allows me to mount the bbq on the opposite gunnel to the fuel filler and vent....that should work!

Yeah I reckon you can't play it too safe Russ. Especially where you're planning on going (note very jealous).

Just remember most boats have the fuel breather at the rear, probably near your bait board
