Yeah I need to replenish the
Yeah I need to replenish the pinkie stocks.
Too much dhuie in the freezer and want a change!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Fillet
With figures like that you can fillet all my fish from now on. The best return I've heard of on dhufish was somewhere around 33% and he used to run a fish shop and did it all the time.

Christ what haven't you done,
Christ what haven't you done, actually don't answer that John!
I don't get 49 just quoting the figure given to me by fisheries on return rate for fillets, I would certainly be hoping for better than 33 but that all depends on how arsed you can be

Not me!!
That was a mate who ran a fish and chip shop in Bunbury. My returns are no where close to those figures but still respectable though.

Last couple of Dhuies
The only thing that was left was the head John . Wings and Backbone cut into thirds on the Barbie and the bladder cut into thin strips in the deep fryer, bugger all waste. Reckon the wings are tasty when fresh..

Magic
Comes out like pork crackle only crispier, wouldn't miss it for quids.
Any fish's with a swim bladder will do though mulloway is a bit stringy.

$75-$100 per kilo isnt so
For people who dont care much for fishing and boating , $75-$100 per kilo isnt so bad when you dont have to buy a $50-100k boat, hundreds and hundreds on services and general maintenance, licensing, insurance, spend $1000's on tackle and spend hours on the water. On a purely cost analysis, how much does each dhuie you catch on your own boats ends up costing per kilo?

Come on
you don't need all that to catch a humble Dhuie.
All those toys are nice but they're not a requirement for catching Dhuies.
$75-$100kg is simply ridiculous for Dhuie when you can purchase NW snapper/Sweetlip (arguably better eating) for a fraction of the price.
Having said that, if your that way inclined and can afford it go for it. I guess someone must be paying that price.

Yep, nailed it miller,
I would eat a fresh nw snapper before a dhu on most days of the week.
Dhuie prices are a load of wank these days, especially when you can get crimsons and saddle tails for sub $30 p/kg whole.

Lamb chops or good steak is
Lamb chops or good steak is $15 -$25/kg. And I know which I would prefer!!! Fish is a bit boring for me. My Dad was a butcher and I grew up on red meat. I get crazy cravings for red meat if I have not had it for a day

I think $75-$100 per kilo
I think $75-$100 per kilo is also a bit much espcially considering i think dhuie is overated as well but the point Im trying to make was in regards to the people bragging about having a freezer full of dhuies and what not and somehow thinking catching it themselves is the more economically viable option then buying at the markets. When you add up the costs involved( forgot to mention fuel in the original post) and average the amount of dhuies you would/did catch, you would be hard pressed to get a figure close to the market price and if you do then someones raping our fisheries of WA's iconic species.........just saying.
ps this is purely looking at costs comparisons and not taking any consideration the fact most people invest that sort of $$ in fishing purely for recreational purposes and not to turn a profit.

Ten grand under your pillow?
You will have to select your sleeping partners very wisely for that to happen... And be prepared to do some hard work!!!! ;)

i certainly wouldnt say my freezer is full of dhuies i cant read anywhere else that someone said theres was full! i think some people think about it the wrong way! its not about how much it cost more the enjoyment! uf you think about the rules and conditions the pro fishermen have now it could be double that price!

Not sure about only 33 %
Not sure about only 33 %yeild. obviously waste a lot of fish.. this was my pb duhie and only the 2nd legal I have caught in two years. But if you are n't keeping the wings as well then you are wasting so much good fish.. but the two we caught on friday both had empty stomachs as well.. mustn't have been feeding over the full moon... where as the black ass had a stomach full of little fish and so on...

Pity its not $200 a kg then
Pity its not $200 a kg then nobody could afford it ,the pro fisho wouldnt bother with it leaving more for the rec fisho. And yeah soup made from heads and back bones is mint, the wings on a barby would be one of the best bits as well. The only waste i get would be the gills and guts and they are ground up and used for burley as well.
