Buying a jetski - advise sought

Hi fishwreckers
I am looking at buying a jetski and wanted to know what to avoid
Looking for something for myself/kids to use at rotto/river
more interested in something reliable than fast (not interested in supercharged 350kph sea rodents!)
2-3 seater and something i can tow behind boat (understand a valve needs to be installed to stop water being forced back up into jet unit)

any tips on what is a good reliable unit? (looking at 2nd hand)
cheers

A mate has a jetski but never uses it. Must be because he has a Hilux.

Not everyone who drives a Ford Ranger is a spanker, but pretty much every spanker on the road is driving one.

Definitely start undoing the straps once it's in the water and have at least 12 goes at driving it on the trailer to retrieve.

To be fair it's usually the bikini clad Mrs sitting on it while the bloke makes a meal of launching it so no complaints there.

Haha. My neighbour got a new Seadoo GTI something 2.5 years ago. Was pretty happy with it but the kids weren't overly fussed so he sold it... at a profit

yeah there are no bargains

Wed, 2022-11-30 08:29

yeah there are no bargains atm - that will be next summer when things turn south

around 40% of the big 4 banks mortgage books roll off in the first half of next year (consumer fixed rate mortgages) which means there will be a lot of people rolling off ~2% fixed rates and hitting 5% floating - thats going to have an impact for some sadly and i think we will see things cool really quickly
but i digress....

So many to choose from these

Wed, 2022-11-30 06:25

So many to choose from these days. Like buying a boat, do plenty of homework.  I'm sure there is a forum out there for people that are do  a lot of jet skiing and would have great advice for you.

Hope you and the kids get plenty of use and enjoyment out of whatever one you get. See a lot of them that just don't get used

Check out the Jet Ski brothers on YouTube. They've built an ls powered V8 ski, it's the only time you'd ever see me on one. At least you'd be able to outrun the crocs up here!.

 Get the Yami 3

Sat, 2022-12-24 20:28

 Get the Yami 3 seater....

Mine is an fx160 I think, older model.... The newer model is the 180.... All the tow surfers use these hulls as they are good in the ocean and being a yami are pretty bulletproof.

You should be able to get one with 2-300 hours for 5k in good nick ..

I wouldn't bother throwing much more cash than that at one, like everyone else the novelty will subside and you'll use it fuck all...
