Buying in the USA

Has anyone had any experience shopping in the USA by using Australia Post - Shopmate ?
Ive been asking questions about getting some electronic gear from the US and so far 2 suppliers have indicated that they don't ship to Aus. Makes it a little difficult when they have exactly what you want but won't sell to you.
Apparently, by utilising Auspost Shopping Mate, you get a US delivery address and then Australia Post take over and bring to you. Rates seem good with few restrictions.
Anyone done this ?
cheers

Yep
Been using shopmate for a while, all good. Takes about two weeks to arrive in Oz once it arrives at their US warehouse.

Swear I would not use them again
Have used them twice. On both occasions the items have been delivered exceptionally fast to the Shopmate warehouse in Oregon where they proceed to sit there for an inordinate amount of time (1-2 weeks) before Shopmate even update their tracking system to acknowledge they have received them. And don't bother attempting to contact them via their online enquiry button on your tracking page - they simply do not respond to queries. There are mountains of negative reviews about this aspect of their business. I swore after last time I would never use them again and researched some alternatives - one of the more recommended ones was Shipito which from memory was as competitively priced (if not better) than Shopmate.

Or maybe I was just unlucky with my experiences
The main thing was the items arrived in the end and even with shipping I saved a significant amount compared to had I bought locally, which I will ordinarily do but on these occasions the prices were ridiculously cheaper in the US.

I used Shopmate recently to
I used Shopmate recently to ship some calipers/brake pads from the USA. Best shipping quote direct from the suppliers I could get was $299 US. Shopmate was $85 AUD. Was pretty quick too. They were heavy too. Thumbs up for me for Shopmate. Don't forget if it's over $1000 you're up for GST on top.
Cheers,
Disco.

Not always the aussie side -
Not always the aussie side - US postal service are notoriously slow. Ordered something recently went accross the US then back to sender because they forgot to put a stamp on it when the recived the item. second journey sat in 2 different sorting centres for a over a week and a half each time before being sent to Aus - once here receivied in 4 days
