Submitted by Rob H on Thu, 2017-09-21 19:04
So who is off to the boat show?
Im heading down tomorrow myself
Suggest asking Fisheries also what the hell is going on with Bret Carters case also...
Would be good if they got a strong message from the public

Looks great
Very impressed Ryan with your boat. Also loved the 670HT parked behind yours as well. Wouldn't mind trading in my old 670HT for the one on display.

I like that idea of yours Rob H
I think that is an excellent idea, let them know face to face what you think about what they are doing, if a lot of F/W members do the same it will let them know that the anger is alive and still raging.
I also let them know they have done a huge amount of damage to their brand name, I'LL praise them when I believe that they have done all of us fishos a good service but that doesn't preclude me from expressing my disappointment when I truly believe that an injustice has been done or an unjustified action taken.

You're most likely going to
You're most likely going to be venting to young, enthusiatic staff who work in the customer service area of Fisheries who're giving up their weekend (albeit on OT or TOIL) to attend the stand and have completely nothing to do with policy, enforcement or the current legal proceedings and probably completely disagree with what is going on and have no avenue to affect change.
Additionally, Fisheries are well aware of the public's opinion on the matter after the recent FB campaign to flood all their FB posts with opinions on Brett's case.
Food for thought before everyone starts bullying customer service staff at their stand.

On the other hand
If those young, enthusiastic customer service people report back to Fisheries that they copped a load of flack what better way to reinforce the message. I have the greatest respect for Fisheries personnel but in this instance they have shit in their own nest.

I disagree. It's be the same
I disagree. It's be the same as giving flack to the teller in your local bank branch because the bank's Board decided not to pass on the entire RBA interest rate cut in the hope that it will be fed back to the Board. Lazy and misdirected.
But hey, if it makes you walk a little taller to go in and harrass a junior staff member by all means go for it but don't whinge when Fisheries stop doing community engagement at these event.

Another "sensible" comment Frosty.
You don't need to troll them or beat them up, just express your thoughts respectfully.
No different to when you complain to Telstra, do you phone a board member Jack?

If I were a Telstra
If I were a Telstra shareholder and I was unhappy with a Board decision then yes I would take up my issue with the Board and not drop into my local Telstra store and take it up with the 19y old working there in the hope it will affect chance at the Board level.

No, I don't agree with bullying anyone
By making your disagreement with the way fisheries have taken to prosecuting Bret I don't mean you should do a rant and rave act, what you are saying about young people manning the stand is quite probably right.
However if you make your view of the situation know to who ever is manning the stand in a respectful manner, I'am sure the staff manning the stand will be asked to give some sort of feed back as to how things went, then they will quite likely report what the public spoke to them about and in this way the head shed will be made aware that the matter is still on the public/fishos mind.
Just my view on how to let fisheries know how you feel.

I'll probably go take a look Saturday morning
Before the 2nd prelim gets under way. At least it is happening on a good weekend not to be fishin! Makes it a far easier decision of whether to go look at boats, or take the tinnie out.

Fuck em....
If it ruins their day, i'm sure they'll be right once they knock off...
For old mate that is still being dragged through the ringer through seemingly no fault of his own then i have no sympathy for them. I've well and truely lost respect for them.
Letting anyone associated with the WA Fisheries dept know they have bitten off more than they can chew by bending rules to suit themselves might prevent this happening in the future...
Anyone going i say give them both barrells....

Headed down to the show at lunchtime. The $20 entry fee is a bit shit but I remember it was the reason we stopped going.
Damn there are some beautiful boats there. Back in Black (owned by a FW'er) is there amongst the other great boats.
Picked up a lifejacket from Recfishwest and commented on the Bret Carter thing. He chuckled and mentioned a few people had spoken about it to them already.
Quick trip and didn't get to look for many specials but if you have $100k to spend, there are no shortages of ways to do it.

Show
Headed down this morning. $3 discount for being a club marine member.
Picked up a new stereo, speakers, jig and jig rod for roughly internet prices.
Tried to buy ZipWake tabs but was only offered 10% off RRP. Negotiated down to 12% off RRP (same as whitworths price) but will just buy them online for roughly 20% off RRP.

Much of a discount on the stereo gear? I'm thinking about installing some 7" Fusion speakers at the back of the boat to match the 6" ones up front

Stereo
I just bought a cheap system as the boat doesn't have one. AM/FM/USB stereo, 5" speakers and a splitter for the antenna for $180 odd.
Tried to get prices on a Raymarine Axiom and a minn kota but neither reps were furnished with the boat show prices - 'come back in an hour' they said. Seems a shame that the boat show was a surprise last minute thing and I can understand why they wouldn't have the info to hand

Tried getting a ticket on the app but you need to print it and then discovered it's cheaper at the door than online?
And cost $18 to park for 2 1/2 hrs

I have been watching without commenting on the Brett Carter case for a long time now,
Rob, I am not being disrespectful to you in any way, but have you, or any one else here dived with Brett previously?
If so you will know there may be more to this story,

I have done a fair bit of lobbying, read the court transcripts, and spoken to Bret quite a few times.
Please feel free to pm it thru, and I'll tell if it's something I wasn't aware of?

Shhh they will hear you
Keep it quiet will you, if they get wind of that idea that's exactly what they will do as well as charge you for the petrol you use when going for a test drive.
I've heard there is going to be an Easter in October next year why, well we Christmas in July and because it rhymes (tra la la )and the big retailers think it will go down a treat.

Any how, back at Lizzy quay today. Had a polite chat with Fisheries about the Bret Carter case. I explained that I support everything they do apart from what they are doing to Bret. They looked like they had heard plenty about it.

Went to the show yesterday.
Went to the show yesterday. Got the train in from Cockburn price wasn't a worry as I got the concession card and companion card so dad got in fee I just had to pay the $16 so was pretty happy with that wassuprised how many mercy outboards were there on the display boats and the merc stand was battling to see a susuki Honda yamy or etec. If money was no object it would be a toss up between the razerline or the genesis for me or maybe the fury if I went glass
