Haven't had any info as yet on how many are coming, not too long to go before it starts.
Just finished doing up the radio watch rosters that cover from 0600 through to 1800 from the sea rescue building then from a home base for late returns, Will have a mobile number so those who leave early can SMS their details in so we can log them on.
For those who head north towards Cuvier or outside of the islands please use the repeater channel 81 VHF, we monitor this as well as the usual ch 16 and 73 plus 88 on 27meg [but don't rely on 27meg as its range is shocking and very few use it]
Yep live here so in Carnarfin. I've been heading out to the popular spots and spilling blood and offal. Just to ensure the men in gray suits hit the visitor line. SHould be a great week for a few quiet ones.
One bit to think about for those who come up from down south and don't have the storage capacity or abiding to trip limits is to give some thought to donating excess fish to the crowd at each weigh in. There are heaps of people who come to the weigh ins to see big fish but never get the chance or can't go out and catch their own and would welcome a fish or two.
Sea rescue will be hold our sausage fund raiser next Friday night down at the building, licenced bar, 1730 till 2200 all welcome and the proceeds go towards maintaining our boats and radios etc and fuel to keep you all safe.
all visitors welcome. carnarfin is about community, fishing and fun. lets hope the weather is kind to us. that's a shit comment to make trepangdua. hope you don't want to travel to someone elses town to fish someday.
Been going for the last 8 years and always had an awesome time and found the locals great,
Great service provided by the Carnarvon sea rescue as always and admire the dedication and coordination required to service the event with all the extra boats in town, also support the raffle and donate, (and that's coming from an ex sea rescue member from another community).
We make sure we buy all our provisions from town to support the community along with passing on fillets to many of the pensioners in town who don't get a chance to get out anymore or have no family!
Any way that's my rant over and hope that it's a cracking year weather wise and that the grey coats go on holiday some where else..
Technically no, but if you have a few beers whilst giving them away and he bought the beer then technically you just happened to be drinking his beer at the time and he forgot to take what wasn't consumed.....
My comment was meant to be tongue in cheek. Apologies to the sensitive fishers I have offended. Obviously I don't feed the sharks with anything but my bait
The state and federal governments' might take most things with their budgets but, don't let them take away our sense of humour.
Good typical bit of aussie humour trepangdua.
I'll ge making my way up as a first timer. Will be teaming up with the missus cousin, who is a local, while she stays home to bring home the bacon. Looking forward to it. From everything I've read I to hope the weather is good. Nothing worse than a sour taste on your first outing. Just hope my gear can stand up to the task
Davi-d ,who will you be fishing with up there?? We will be going up on Friday as have a few things to do before the comp.Hope the weather is good, but always a place to fish even if windy just have to chase different species.Maybe catch up for a drink at weigh in one night.
My missus cousin Pita. He lives on a plantation in Canarvon and works as a mechanic. I believe we are using one of his old mans boat, either 14.5ft or 22ft. Im sure you can guess which one I'd rather be on haha. I'm driving up Saturday so I'll in amongst the traffic. But I wont be towing so I'll be a little quicker than thr rest of you blokes, and blokettes.
I'm always up for a drink. Don't be shy, I'm not haha.
For those driving up for the comp please watch out for cattle on the road, there are heaps of them during the day and what seems like twice as many at night
Ill be buggered if I'm going out...
You mad lot aren't gonna be pinging my spots this week!!! haha
Seriously, if you want to take out the major... I would target the whiting, flathead inshore species..
Oh... and make sure all your car doors etc are LOCKED..
A lot of young sticky fingers at work lately!!
A few local boats have had their fuel tank syphoned also.
Sea Rescue will be down at the Gassy on registration night taking down all your details so will look forward to meeting you all.
When you log in we will require your DoT number as well as your boat name, it makes it easier to track down details if things go pear shaped, another reason is that quite often we have more than one boat with the same name.
For those travelling up early, sea rescue is putting on a fund raising sausage sizzle at the building on Friday 23rd starting at 1730, licenced bar, all welcome to come and join us and maybe get some tips on where the fish are

Bities
Plenty of bities out there, one of my sons works on a wetliner and they have been hammered on their last 3 trips.
Plenty of good for Carnarvon pinks at most spots.

Fresh bait
The boys on the wetliner found that cutting fresh fish up for bait was a sure way to attract bities.

Hopefully ur pet sharks stay after the comp and prevent u catching ur own fish when needed .
I think u forget that the out of Towners bring heaps of quids into the town which helps the Lyons club which run the event.
Intetsting comment when the event is run to support the community and other non profit organisations.
This will be our 5th event and yes I once lived in town, so we are more than happy to catch a couple of fish and support the community . :)
