Carnarvon Overnight Accom
Submitted by tcarroll on Tue, 2015-06-02 11:46
Hi Guys,
Heading up to Exmouth next week with the boat in tow and looking at staying over night in Carnarvon as I don't want to drive any further than that after dark!
Anybody have any recommendations for easy accommodation that will suit having a boat and is secure?
Any feedback welcome!!
Cheers in advance.

If you are not worried about
If you are not worried about luxury (in the least....lol )then canarvon caravan park 477 Robinson rd. (north side)
ask for one of the 2 story units.
we usually stay there for quick overnighter and can back the boat right up to the door (even plug in the freezer overnight) very secure for boat (all the gates close at night)
like I said nothing flash but OK just to recharge after a long drive with the boat.

Just be carefull when getting
Just be carefull when getting close to Carnarvon. always cows and goats on the road for 80km ish before.
I always find Carnarvon the perfect place to sleep overnight when travelling north with the boat. (just the right distance)
then you get to sleep in a bit and a leisurely travel to Exmouth or CB the next day for check in.
safe travels !

Great spot
There are two types of people ,do'ers and watchers
Right now the do'ers are the doing it
And the watchers are watching us do it

Stay close to your stuff
A lot of smash as grab going on there lately. Especially at the touristy accom. Overnighter at the Best Western the other week had resulted in a few cars done over by the local indjinie.

Maybe split the trip in two
Maybe split the trip in two halves. 8 hours of day driving to Billabong roadhouse, secure out the back parking area, hot shower & a good pub meal at the hotel.
From there another easy 8 daylight hour drive & your there.
Maybe worth thinking about.
Cheers & be safe

Gladstone lookout is where I
Gladstone lookout is where I normally stay swagging it. Leave Perth mid morning and cruise up there and try to get there for around 9-10. Dinner at billabong on the way up and a few beers on the lookout. Up early and cruise in to Carnarvon and brekky and fuel at the new BP. Easy drive to Exmouth.

Hey mate, can't really
Hey mate, can't really rememebr exactly what the track is like getting up there. I've got a 4x4 towing a 16ft ally so have never really paid much attention. Certainly wasn't a problem for me getting up or down and there are usually a few large caravans up there so I imagine a large boat wouldn't be a problem.
It's a great little spot for a stop. You can actually see the ocean of shark bay from up there.

Gladstone lookout
Pretty sure its bitumen up the hill and gravel up top. There is plenty of room to turn around and finding a spot will depend on how many seagulls with their caravans have the same idea to do it when you are there

Carnarvon Accom
Carnarvon caravan park is probably the better place to stop overnight, all fenced with the gates shut around 1900, they supply you with a remote to open the gate if you need to venture out. Since the fence went up there hasn't been, to my knowledge, any theft from the rat bags around town unlike some of the other parks or the bloke who parked his boat out front of his mates house instead of towing it in from near the big bridge in the morning, found out they ran out of fuel 5nm out after filling it up with over 300l the day before.
And the best reason is that I live in the park!!!!

Hi lads old thread but
Hi lads old thread but thought I'd jump on it to see where everyone is staying now up in Carnarvon that's pretty secure. Is the caravan park still good? Don't wanna have to unpack the whole boat for a night.

I know it's a pain!
Not sure how much gear you have and I know it is a pain..... But i tend to always er on the side of caution and still typically rip most stuff off the boat regardless just to be sure. Annoying, but usually takes less than 15/20 mins.
Otherwise Wooramel station is an easily accessible overnighter, however is just over an hour south of Carnarvon depending on where you are heading. Depending on power requirements, i'd suggest this would be a fairly safe option and i'd leave the boat loaded here overnight.

Last time
Last time i went up with boat in town (2022) stayed at Capricorn caravan park, did swag it in boat, staff very nice and helpful, toilet/ shower block very clean,
no hassles very tidy
going back to exmouth in may no guessing where we are going to camp
have stayed at other van parks with boat in town, was given crappy sites, asked for grassed areas away from highway, needed camper van or caravan for that!
don't think I would like to stay to close to town centre, used to live in karratha and traveled up and quite regularly, have stayed at Wooremal roadhouse in donga out back, meals were great
also at wooramal station in 2 bedroom unit, was also great especially hot water natural spas great after day on road with a couple of beers
withboat in tow and gear I like to stay as close to boat as possible no matter were I stay
enjoy your trip and leave a couple of fish for us
