carnarvon saturday

I will be up in carnarvon for this weekend and was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction or be up for a trip with another boat. Would be up for pretty much anything but would love to know if there are some creeks to poke around in within an hours run from town to chase some Jack etc. Any help would be good.

Oyster Crk

Could try Oyster Creek, that isn't far from town and looks like it holds fish. I'm not sure if you launch at the boat ramp and go around via sea of if theres another spot where you can launch. We go there to interview the shore based guys that can handle the sand flies. Theres also the river to the side of the one mile jetty, looks like you could launch a boat at Dwyers Leap. Best bet is to go into the local tackle store on the main road in and be friendly, they give some pretty good advice last time we were there.

If you put your boat in at the boat harbour and head out the channel. The channel takes a hard right as you exit the mangroves. At this point do a 90 degree leftie and that will put you in Teggs channel which will take you around to Oyster ck. You used to be able to put a tinnie in at Oyster ck.To get there from town centre head out past the race course turnoff on th bitumen and take the next right.(within 10mins of town)
. Ray or Dave at sportslocker or the guys at Telomac are very helpful and will be able to point you in the right direction.
The other place that you may want to have a look at is Bush Bay The turnoff is about 30 k's or so south of town on the main highway. Its open water but there are a series of channels which run east/west about 1 mile off the coast. Just head out and turn parallel to the coast and watch the sounder. You can camp at Bush Bay(take midgee cream or vitamin B tablets) Its a beach launch and quite shallow for a fair way out. If your driving up it would be a good chance to poke around Gladstone which is 6k's off the highway between Overlander and Wooramal roadhouses opposit the entrance to Yaringa Station....Have a ball...
