Carnarvonite's Toy
This is my toy "WEE SQUIRTER".The name is from when it was first built as a 5 metre jet boat with a 40hp Lombardini diesel and a Castoldi jet unit.Unfortunately the jet wasn't successful here in Carnarvon so we filled in the transom and added the Evinrude 60hp ETEC. The space occupied by the diesel gives room for a 50litre fuel tank plus room to store flares, lifejackets etc. With the original fuel tank under the passengers seat and the new one it gives a total of 90litres and a range of approximately 160-170nm. The sounder and Gps are both 6inch Navmans, the radios=Cobra VHF and GME 27meg,bilge pump and a Danforth compass round it out I use part of a 200litre plastic drum for the ready use of the anchors with another 100metres of rope stowed under the fore deck Its strictly a two people a trip boat with the exception being crabbing or mucking around in close

Do you mind if I ask which
Do you mind if I ask which castoldi it was? 40hp is pretty small, I think alucraft are fitting the Castoldi TD05 with a 160hp these days.
Looks like a great ride for 2 people and you can put it in anywhere!

Size of jet
I could be wrong but I think it was an 05,they change the impellor pitch to suit the horsepower of the engine.
We initially tried the 30hp Lombardini in it but it wasn't powerful enough so went up in size on both motor and impellor.Had a top speed of 27 knots with 2 on board, now with the ETEC can reach 30knots with 3
With the 05 there is no clutch/gearbox so when you hit the key it is ready to go as soon as you move the bucket

Oh that is interesting, I
Oh that is interesting, I thought one of the good things about the Castoldi was thats in one of the only jets with a clutch. Perhaps only in some configurations.
I forgot to mention I think they were using the 160hp on a 5.5 or 6m too and I'm sure half the horses were to just move the motor, they're pretty heavy!
Good to hear its doing even better with the etec!

Jets
The one that was in it is the smallest in their range and the only one without a clutch. The bigger models have changeable gear ratios allowing a greater range of engines to be used on the same size jet unit.I think mine was the only model with a manually operated bucket, the bigger ones are hydraulic operation.
Using the diesel/jet the fuel consumption was around 4-5 nm per litre as against 2,5 to 3nm with the Etec.Still a very economic boat though

Front Seat
There are no fights on who has the front seat as it can and does get a bit wet!!hence the rain coats store under the rear seat.Next thing to go on are spray rails on the forward chines,it should stop most if not all of it.
Yes Col,a nice little toy,one of the favourite fishing bits are drifting around the river mouth channels flicking lures for tailor, mate gets on the raised deck up front and I stand just behind the rear seat with the console the only obstruction.
Roberta, the seats are available at most good boat dealers,if they don't have them ,they're in the manuals for them to order. From memory they were something around $140 each, they do not come with a pedestal base though.

60 hp Etec
The motor has done 140?hours from new in about 2 years. The only trouble with it was a faulty computor thingy that they replaced.Used to go from 2900 revs straight to 5000 with nothing in between, since the swap its been magic, cannot fault it.Half the time you can't hear it running

The old faulty computer
The old faulty computer thingy brought my new Mariner 40hp unstuck too mate. Warranty job, but not the sort of part you want to go when out the back is it?!?!? I have always liked Evinrudes, but ended up Mariner as package from dealer...(don't they all come out of like 1 or 2 factories anyways??) lol
