Dont think there is any carp
Dont think there is any carp in there, it dries out each year so I couldn't see how they would survive.

actually curious about this too as to whether there is any local places, carp being pests are still great fun to catch and can put on a great fight i used to fish 1kg line for them in the yarra in melbourne and used to have a ball catching them up to 8 and 9kg's

Apparently lake monger used
Apparently lake monger used to have a decent population, don't know if it still does. Spotted a 3 kilo specimen sunning and feeding in my local duck pond last week, didn't know they were there. Won't be there for much longer mind you ;)

I use to catch them down
I use to catch them down near the Nicholson Rd Bridge in Cannington years ago. A couple pound line with a Quill float and very small hook, cant rember the size, used bread or dough for bait. Casted next to the floating lillies and weed, very relaxing fishing! We put them in a keep net then released them.

Theyve just taken 400 tonnes
Theyve just taken 400 tonnes of the bloody things dead & dying out of our local lake.(COLAC)( Thats 20 semitrailer loads)because the lake is receding fast & getting too salty for them to live. There are still heaps of them littering the banks all round, but its too bloody muddy to get them unless by skiff while they are in still floating in water.
The stink can be F#*>"-~ awful depending on the wind!
Some idiots got homesick & brought carp out to Aust along with rabbits, foxes, sparrows, starlings & blackbirds!!
6 good reasons why I am moving from Vic. to WA. Yeah I know you got rabbits & foxes, but please NO carp!!
I`d rather be fishin`!!!

Perry Lakes
Seen some XXL koi/carp wallowing about in one of the Perry Lakes when i went to the gardening expo a week ago. Was dead easy to see these things just swimming around. Might be a bit of fun on light tackle!

Actaully, now that you mention it, yes, they do (dry up). The one I saw in North lake was many years ago. In those days both lakes were constantly full of water.

CARP
Mullafeild obviously dosen't like the taste of carp
If any body else cares the lakes /excavations are at the corner of great est hwy and roe hwy diagonaly across from midland brick
There is some good size fish in there. It might be a good afternoons entertainment .
A good chance to pracice some of the finer points of fishing.
Rather than draging fish up on a winch .Which I would consider to be rather unsporting

Plenty in emu lake,
Plenty in emu lake, Ballajura. Been catching goldfish, carp and koi in there for at least 12 years.
Just using a quill float - size 6 suicide - with a peice of bread lightly pressed on the hook. Biggest catch was a 117cm koi, absolute monster on light gear.
Probably give it a crack in the next few weeks, very relaxing!

DieHard, just park up and
DieHard, just park up and walk down to the banks.. If you want exact location pm me and ill sort you out. Easiest access is to park near the tennis courts, i live only 50 metres from there so im always keen for a fish!
The council have been netting the lake for years but have obviously never got them all. I've had the ranger pull up and tell me its okay to catch them "aslong as i kill them" as they are a pest. Destroying the plantlife and reeds all along the banks.
Gave a few directions to Buz yesterday and he hooked into a 48cm koi. Reckons it gave him a nice fight too!
Personally, night fishing is the go. Carp seem to bite at night moreso than daylight. Quill and glow float and your set! Biggest carp would be close to 4-5kg that i've caught.

Hope you guys realise how much
big koi cost in the petstores!! You could be onto to a winner if you dont traumatise them too much before delivery. Or maybe keep them in a large tank until recovered then deliver.
Unlike carp, goldfish & Koi are not yet classed as obnoxious pests even if they are in the wild. Guess its kinda like the rabbit situation.

Eradication didnt work.
Their attempts to eradicate the feral koi/carp/goldfish population obviously didnt work. Oh well provides a fun and easy fishery to play in when bored.

Hell yeah!
Man, I love the idea and never realised there was a carp population in Perth. I see the post billstar commented on was a couple of years ago, but I'm guessing the carp are still around? Noxious pest - no bag limits or releasing allowed? Me and my two best "drinky n bullshit" mates have been talking about doing a 4 or 5 hour challenge between us, a roll of cotton thread and a barbless hook each, bread for bait, a couple of bottles of shiraz, a botlle of whisky chaser and a few "jazz cigarettes" blah, blah and carp would be the perfect target (always had redfin in mind).
If anyone has a "hotspot" to reveal, please note we'll be taking enrolments for the next challenge, term 1, 2013. Emphasis will be placed on the "jazz".

I've been thinking of giving
I've been thinking of giving it a crack for a while now and decided today is the day. I've got me corn and bread, a few bream sticks rigged up with 00 sinkers and some small long shank hooks and I'm heading down to kent street to try my luck. As BigDunc said, it would be good to hear of some spots where people have had luck and I'll be sure to post any good results later on.

If you want to have a go at
If you want to have a go at carp fishing in those kind of waters, use sweetcorn. 2-3 on a 6-size hook, 30cm rig and a 1oz running sinker. Put the rod in a holder, loosen the drag (or use a baitrunner) and wait until it goes off. Won' be long if any are around. Ideally you should try and berley with the sweetcorn as well. You'll be limited in distance of the shore, but that shouldn't be a problem as they'll come fairly close in if you keep a little quiet.

Find a local pond, where
Find a local pond, where people go to feed the ducks with bread. Try and burley up with some bread (avoid catching ducks or you will be accused of being an animal hater) then throw out unweighted hook with bread as bait. Dont compress the bread too much, or it will sink too fast. I have won a few carp competitions interstate using this method.

Emu lake in Ballajura holds
Emu lake in Ballajura holds some Koi, Carp and giant Goldfish. Can be hard to get them when the water level is high. I find its alot easier towards the end of summer, when the water level is real low.

Heard there's some carp/koi/goldfish in the canning river behind Kent St weir, around the Nicholson road bridge, anyone know if there still is? Would love to have a bit of fun near home while helping to eradicate a noxious pest!
