to carpet or not ?

have a genesis 6.1
up until now it has been uncarpeted, non slip ali deck. self draining decks, mainly used for fishing....north trips etc. but occ used river wine cruise.
anyone here have opinions as to whether carpet is better or not.
just doing it up a bit at the moment over winter and wondering if carpet would be a worthy addition. how does it go for cleaning etc.
I usually wear thongs in the boat.
1. cos the non slip deck is like sandpaper (not bad for a day out but spend 10 days straight 10 hrs a day (love to fish hard sometimes !!!) and Im sure Im a cm shorter!)
2. fatigue etc.
carpet help? or just be harder to clean and smell bad etc???
cheers guys

Have a look at Sea-Dek
Its from the east, but it is soft PVC flooring. Self adhesive backing. once its o=n, its on, until you really need to rip it up.
I have a sample stuck on the boarding platform of my boat, in the sun 100% iof the time and in the water most of the time. Seems to be standing up good to the conditions.
It is very soft under foot and does not draw on your feet like carpet does.
I'm just waiting to get a chance to do the whole boat. Bit difficult up here as you need to do templates and send them over and then the flooring is computer cut.
It is expensive, but looks good and feels great under foot. Probably be of benefit for sound absording and comfort factor in an ally.
i am going to get the faux teak (cork look)
cheers

I like the sound of that
I like the sound of that Kev. I'll try it for my project boat. Back to the main question my boat's carpeted and yeah after a few days fishing it honks, and no amount of soap gets rid of it. Just need to air it out. It's no cooler in the sun either, hence me being interested in the above product so might end up doing the big boat as well.

I've had two boats with
I've had two boats with carpet & one with short pile artificial lawn. I'd go the lawn option if I was to get another tub. Cheap, doesn't rot, nice underfoot, grippy, cleaning is easy & dropped hooks don't snag in the pile. I never found a downside to it. Either option is better than a bare ally deck.
Just because I smile & nod does not mean I believe the crap coming out of your mouth.

$2500 for carpet ..geez I'm
$2500 for carpet ..geez I'm definately in the wrong job .. use carpet myself and have a extra piece overlaying the main deck area that I can take out and wash properly if need be .. your tub being self draining the ribbed type would be more suitable , anyway if your keen nolans in kewdale stock it . I get it wholesale for around $35 a lineal metre being 205cm wide .. not sure how much retail is

i like the carpet look on
i like the carpet look on boats personally, i have carpet on mine, nice under foot easy to clean after fishing. bit of dettol and marine spray and she is good as new.
mine also has clips on the bottom which button to the deck so you have the option of taking it out when you want.

I've got a self draining deck
I've got a self draining deck with thin carpet, if we're out fishing, diving ect we have a rubber ribbed mat which covers the entire deck and allows us to wash any blood or fish off. If we're sleeping on the deck just roll it up and the carpet is dry, or take it out if we're just going for a cruize. Best of both worlds although the mat does get hot in summer, slightly hotter than carpet.

Mate's got fake lawn, as CF
Mate's got fake lawn, as CF pointed the positives, someone just needs to make it a different colour

thanks Muppet. the quote you
thanks Muppet.
the quote you have def is better but still $130 / sq meter ....$somewhere around the $750 for my boat.
might look at something under the driving console may be interesting ...but still just more than I want to spend on that .
lot of great options here and the general concensus is something ......carpet fake turf rubber etc is better than nothing.
Dant: could you let me know how the clip work so you can take the carpet out work.....would be great.
will look at clark rubber tomoz ...cheers squidvicous1

I've got thin glued-on
I've got thin glued-on carpet on my fibreglass boat - came with it - I don't like it much - doesn't clean that easy, catches all the blood and hooks and stuff, and consequentially the stink. And recently its come up in places. I would say next time I would go for some kind of rubber matting - something I can take out or just a nonslip coating

I've got carpet in mine Its
I've got carpet in mine.
Its blue non slip/rubber backed and got it from Whitworths at not to bad a price (can't remember though). Is very short pile and doesn't catch hooks like the old carpet we had and is easy to wash so it doesn't smell. Not sure about anything that will hold water for a self draining deck though.
Mate (self drain deck) has the rubber ribbed stuff for his and this is easy to hose out blood etc with the deckwash.
Wouldn't go anything you would have to glue down unless it was on a breamstyle boat as this make it hard to clean. much easier if you can pull it out now and then hang it over the clothesline (not next to the wife's new sheets) hose it off and then chuck it back in when dry.
Cheers

its basically the same clips
its basically the same clips you have for clears, button on (not 100% on what they are called)
i have about 10 buttons around the corners of the carpet that line up with the deck, mine are srewed into the deck, but im sure you could glue them on.

We put marine tuft carpet in
We put marine tuft carpet in our boat. It's awesome. Looks amazing and its Quite thick so it's super comfy underfoot. You really notice it when you spend a few days on board. You buy it by the meter, cut to suit, get edges overlooked and pin it down with stainless studs. Its got built in scotcgaurd and Gets covered in shit when fishing but I just get raw water on to the blood ASAP and give it a good soaking in the boat when we get home. Hardly ever take it out to wash and it doesn't smell at all.
