Catching Occy's??

 Hey Guys,

Thought I'd have a go at catching occy off the stones with a gidgee. Didn't think it could be too hard, so on Sunday arvo took the kids and wife down to Daweville Cut to have a crack. Not sure if I was putting the bait (half a butterfish) in the wrong spots but I didn't see a single Occy. Managed to lure a small Wobby out of his hidey hole and get stuck into the bait right at our feet, kids thought that was pretty cool! Any tips from those that have it sussed. I was thinking of trying the reefy sections between Halls Head and the Cut at low tide next time. But thought I would of at least seen one or two. Pretty keen to have a go at pickling some Occy.

Cheers

Chris.

On cray boats occys were caught using ....lobster lol (straight up) occys live for crayfish. Other thing they go mental over is eel.

Now i know nones gonna go buy what hysterically passes for a lobster in this state as bait. But if you go down docks where fishing boats coe in. There is a good chance of getting a few giant eels for near nothing.

Don't look for the occy look

Don't look for the occy look for small collections of shells, crab shells or shiny objects like bottles. When you spot them have a closer look, there will be occy close by.

seen an olderly lady down mandurah. using a pole with big squid jig and 150 lb line joined to it.she was looking for shells (crab and sea).the lady had about 2 meters of line joined to strong pole with jig attached,i seen her catch 4 in 15 mins, occy will attack bright big jigs, and man did she have great reflex actions, cant let occy attach itself back to rocks.(hence very strong line) ,she lost a few but got a great feed, they shoot out and attack jig instantly.good luck
