Sandy Cape Tailor

Went to Sandy Cape on the weekend for my 50th. Tailor were there in numbers. Most of them were just legal with a few bigger ones in the mix. Didn't take bait so used a Smilin Jack minnow with great results. I was easily out fishing the neighbour using mulies. Once I had the bag limit I took the trebles off and replaced them with a single hook so I could release them with out harm.
The missus had the stubbie holders made up for the occasion. I always wanted to call my boat "King of the Dhus" after bagging out on Dhus on the first trip out (8 back in the day) but wasn't allowed to do it - happy wife.

Great report!

I always get a buzz when lures outfish bait...and ya got the right flavour of beer, too! And what a missus, sortin' out the stubbie holders!

Now for the technical question...when you switched to singles, was your hookup-to-landing ratio as good as, or better than, it was with trebles? Most of my tailor fishing is C&R, and trebles usually make a mess of them.

cheers that's my first report. That's a good question. I was surprised to still get plenty of hook-ups on the single but I was winding down at that stage. They were swallowing the trebles and it sometimes got messy trying to remove them so I will stick with the single from now on.
Yes love Coopers Pale and also the missus.

Good work there Wilzee,

Sanday Cape is one of my favourite places in the world.

Have a mate who's family used to have a shack there and been loving it since. Took the kids up before xmas and had a few throws for tailor for only 1 small chopper, so nice to know you bagged a few on the lures. Always seem to end up doing more drinking than fishing up there (as everywhere) but what a beautiful spot to do it.
