Caught off Trigg

Caught this lil guy off trigg, probs about 25-30cm nice and fat... have no idea what it is, Some kind of Wrasse maybe?

But that is a Wirrah. Which type not sure, but other nickname "old boot'. Cook it and an old boot together, throw away the fish and eat the boot, it will taste better.

-Just looked a little more armed with the term wirrah and found that he is a Acanthistius serratus, Western wirrah

Looks like a type of wirrah, but I haven't caught one with those colours befor they normally have a bit of green about them.
I have eaten and thought they were ok but you need to skin. The flesh is a bit like blackass

these hang around the rocks in the shallows i have noticed. caught one at Quagi beach once on a whole herring with 5"0 gangs

greedy buggers and slimy as a sludge bucket

Leopard wirrah - caught 40cm + sizes at Burns between the weed and reefs. Feels like a bag when they on the line.
