Changes to overwidth towing regs
Others may have already noticed, but there have been changes to the regs for towing of overwidth recreational boats.
I received my renewal, and hilighted at the end was a box with a long text saying there was changes and details could be found on the Main Roads website.
After a fruitless 30 minutes searching for this info both manually and using their description "Oversize Boat Order", I gave up.
Note
Change to the Class 1 RAV Oversize Boat Transport Period PermitThe Class 1 RAV Oversize Boat Transport Period Permit has been replaced by the Oversize boat Order for recreational boats (refer to our website for further information). If your boat trailer is connected to a business, you will now need to apply for a Class 1 RAV Oversize Period Permit, noting the period permit will now be issued to the towing vehicle and not to the boat trailer (refer to our website for the application form).
So I rang them, and the kind lady directed me to Page 1530 of the Gazette, which then went back to another section of the website that appeared unrelated, and the outcome was;
You no longer require a $50 3 yr permit to tow an oversize recreational boat (not a business).
You still need to abide by all the conditions but just don't require a permit as long as its not a business or reward`.
I did point out to Main Roads, that they could have stated that on the renewal with about 1/3 of the words, or directly by email to all permit holders, but apparently thats too difficult.

Similar happened 12 yrs ago
Similar happened 12 yrs ago when they opened up night towing below 2.7M wide.
A great change without a doubt-freeway towing outside of peak would also be a great one Ive suggested.
I like to keep up with the regs, but I found this out by Facebook, 2 yrs after it was implemented.
You'd think, having every permit holders details and email address would mean an email update would be simple but apparently it was too time consuming to "send an email to everybody"

Here is another one I have
Here is another one I have recently heard about. If towing a caravan with full frame you can also tow a boat behind with a permit. Not to sure on the truth about it but a semi driver told me he has seen a couple doing this such thing

Thats an interesting one,
Thats an interesting one, even if it were legal, the towball fitted on the caravan would have to have been engineered by the caravan manufacturer themselves, and I've never seen any such thing.
Given that you cannot re-engineer the tow rating of an existing registered vehicle I can't see this being correct or achievable-can you see Jayco etc doing this ?

Haha, I sent almost the
Haha, I sent almost the exact same email to them yesterday.
"May I suggest that instead of sending out “Permit Reissue Reminder” to recreational boat permit holders that a email advising a permit is no longer required and with a PDF summary of the “Oversize Boat Order” is sent instead. Not very clear and after looking up the “Oversize Boat Order" I still don’t get the changes."
