changing cray pot float ids

mate of mine has been down for a couple of weeks from dampier he has 2 of my 4 pots in the water with his id on them he is heading home on wensday is it legal to change his pot id to the wifes if she has a licence and is on the boat when we do it

Can't see any reason why not
The pots are yours and all you are doing is showing who is the licenced user of those pots, it's not like you are charging floats on some one else's pots on the water or where ever.
Years ago I brought a couple of plastic pots and ropes an floats which where marked with the then owners markings. All I did was fill in his markings (which were burnt into the float) with selastic and then painted on my markings.
All good.

Be careful
it’s only ok if he is on the boat when you do it. You may own the pots but his ID is on them so only he can pull them. Once they are on the deck you can do what you want with them.

He needs to be on the boat as well, landing someone elses floats with out them on the boat will get you in the sh!t

Your wife can put her float
Your wife can put her float onto his pots and leave his float on, that way he can continue when he gets back. If he has 2 floats on each rope he needs to remove the unmarked float only.
