Chart plotter recemondations

Hey guys

Im hoping someone can give me some advice/opinions on getting a new chart plotter

I have a furuno588 with the 1kw transducer

I was originally going to just get a lowrance chart plotter/sounder and just use it for the plotter and use a markfish device but now I'm thinking it might be worth to get a 1 kw chirp for the lowrance

What are people's thoughts on running both the 1kw transducers and can it be done or is it just not worth it

Im open to any ideas or different recommendations, I'm definitely no expert and need all the help I can get

Thanks for may help

I can't speak for the transducer mate but the Furuno/HDS/Markfish combo is brilliant

Jack are you using a TM transducer or in/through hull?

I very nearly bought a used 588 and TM260 for but couldn't quite get myself to pull the trigger.

I'm still waiting and keen to purchase new sounder capability. The only thing stopping me from going the furuno is the lack of scrollback and NMEA2000 (need for markfish). If they had the scroll back I could live with the need for Markfish...

So now holding off until I see the final specs on the Axiom pro from Raymarine with 3D and 1 KW chirp builtin.

Running a P66. I'd rather a through hull as it can lose picture on a choppy day but simply don't have the room due to a sealed outer hull

For my 2 cents

I would just use your 588 as the sounder and get a HDS for Nav. Its simple works well and is proven. I wouldnt waste your money with another transducer for your HDS unless you were addidng some form or structure scan or getting some other benefit. The Furuno is an much better sounder stand alone than the Lowrance will ever be. Cheers Southy

Yep what he said, I have the HDS 9 gen2 and best combo I've ever had. I'm still running a 585 and absolutely no complaints here.

585 and Lowrance

Sun, 2017-07-30 14:40

I use botht eh lowrance HDS and 585.

I have a 1kw on teh 585 and a 600W (plus structure scan) for teh lowrance.

I wouldnt install structure scan again, but defintely a transducer. The scroll back and ability to mark spots is great.

I use the 585 mostly, but if i go over a lump, it shows up on the lowrance, and i can mark the location adn go look more closely with the furuno. For the sake of $150, at least grab a transducer for the lowrance.

Interference

Mon, 2017-07-31 08:00

I run a transom mount P66 and an in hull M260. No interference between them.

On my last boat i ran a transom P66 to furuno 620 and a transom skimmer to the HDS7. They were on the same side, about 100mm apart and i had no issues.

The other thing you can do with the lowrance, which is pretty cool, it log your trips and then view all the recordings later on your computer (nerdy i know).

You can upload those recordings and use it to make your own bathymetric charts.

The Furuno is a heap better image, but looking over your own charts is pretty cool as well.

Totalscan transducer on the Lowrance. I have just installed one next to my 1kw running full Simrad. 1kw on the S2009 and totalscan on the NSS evo3.Cheaper option and have scroll back, down scan, side scan, chirp and traditional sonar. Run it on High or Med chirp should not interfere with the Furuno. I am running 1kw Med chirp and Totalscan on high chirp.
