Charter cancelled

There is a very unhappy fisho on Facebook saying that they were on board a charter vessel ready to go to the Abrolhos out of Gero for Easter and the crew announced the charter was cancelled.

Well by checking the weather forecast

Sun, 2016-03-27 12:23

I am not surprised it is cancelled.

im not sure 25 knot winds and a 2 + metre swell would be much fun to fish in no matter where you were heading.

I agree that may be the cause but according to upset fisho it wasn't due to weather.
The post is on a Facebook page called Perth and WA Fishing Reports. He's not happy, he's naming and shaming.

Not weather

Sun, 2016-03-27 13:32

it had nothing to do with the weather. The skipper pulled the pin/spat the dummy, packed his bags and walked off the boat, late in the evening, leaving patrons stranded on the boat in Geraldton harbour. The patrons were told to stay on the boat, as a replacement skipper was going to be sent up, but after another day of waiting, no other skipper showed up, so they cancelled.

Must be nice to be in a position where getting extra time off work & having the coin to travel back up is no big deal. Who knows why the skipper walked off. Could of had safety concerns or any number of other issues that caused him to walk off the job. Big call to dump it fair on the skipper when you don't know any real facts. Maybe not a big deal to you but if it happened to someone in my position, it's doubtful a return trip could be organised. No I don't know the details of what happened or what charter company is involved, I just know you shouldn't jump to conclusions & you shouldn't judge others by the situation you are in yourself.

Sun, 2016-03-27 20:02

Bunch of sooks, I never blamed the skipper. I said he had issues, whether it be personal or with his employers I don't know...however if he did have problem with employer, why wait to last minute to bail and leave patrons stuck on a boat. Highly unprofessional and a dick move. also what's difference if it got canned from weather shimka? You going to cry to God for making it rain and windy ?

Like I said if they got reimbursed, no problems.

Well you cleared the charter

Mon, 2016-03-28 02:34

Well you cleared the charter company "not the charter companies fault Imo" so that only leaves the skipper. So yeah actually, you did blame the skipper. How do you know the skipper hasn't shown up 30 minutes earlier only to find problems that were supposed to be dealt with still existing on the boat? Clearly there is something serious going on behind the scenes within the company/staff or with the boat itself. Regardless the company would be well aware of it well before the boat was due to head out again & either deal with the issue/s or cancel the charter well in advance. If there's issues with the skipper, the company would have known that also & should have dealt with it or found a replacement skipper or cancelled the charter in advance. If the company doesn't know about the issues then they must be running a 1/2 assed operation & don't have a clue what their employees are up to or what condition their equipment is in.

There's this amazing thing called a weather forecast. It gives you a fairly accurate idea of what the weather is going to be long before you would likely leave for a charter leaving from Gero. If you can see the forecast is total crap you can save yourself the petrol & not even bother going up. Not much can be done about an iffy forecast, that is a case of shit happens & you just have to deal with it. In any case it's been made very clear that weather wasn't the issue so that doesn't really have any bearing in this particular instance.

Reimbursed or not, I'd be f#$%ing ropeable if it got canned for anything other than the weather.

That's my take on it & I'd bet if it was you that layed out your hard earned, drove up there, got yourself & all your gear to the boat on time & then it was canned at the last moment by something other than the weather you would have a different view to the one your giving here.

No stalking required, just remember your name being mentioned by other people. Re-read my first reply to your comment. If you can't understand what I said then the basic jist of it is that you don't know all the facts so you shouldn't jump to conclusions. Seems the only one that can't handle others opinions is yourself going by you resorting to insults instead of being able to deal with it like an adult.

Can't help you with your lack of intelligence, sorry. Now do me a favour & slap yourself, I have more pressing issues than dealing with the likes of you.

 Obviously you love me then..

And I never disagreed to your opinions once.

only defending my own because you tried to belittle mine

happy Easter

Just to clarify I did not blame skipper, I said he had issues (as in a reason to bail )

and wouldn't be charters fault  because would/could of been an unforeseen circumstance...  just like if weather changed last minute.. Obviously they tried to get another skipper at short notice to try fix the situation

yes it would be disappointing...but nothing you can do other than offer a refund...these things do happen

im not defending of blaming anyone . I think it's silly people go to social media badmouthing business

Weather or no weather...

Sun, 2016-03-27 14:34

...if the one person who is qualified to legally operate the vessel chucks a hissy fit and does a runner, it's a safe bet the charter doesn't go.

And it certainly COULD be the company's fault because (a)they are obligated to provide a boat and someone to drive it and (b)said skipper's behaviour may have been a result of not being paid, poor working conditions, etc.

No one will know

Sun, 2016-03-27 20:27

No one will know the reasons other than the skipper and the boat owners.
There could be all sorts of reasons why he pulled the pin, unpaid wages, dispute with owners or worse, safety of the passengers, crew and vessel though not in that order and it all falls back on his shoulders.

He is the one who cops it if things go pearshaped and no doubt that would have been in the back of his mind

Mon, 2016-03-28 07:23

Yep. If the skipper doesn't think it is safe to go, it is his balls on the line. If the owner says 'take the charter out or get off my boat' they he has one option.

It would certainly suck to do the miles for it to have been cancelled though has a full refund been offered?

devils advocate here but of course it is also plausible the cancellation may be due to a sudden death or illness of a family member ??
may have suddenly got medical news from a doc about a serious issue that needs dealing with immediately ??

may well not be weather nor boat issues etc without the full facts anything else is assumption , and I'm sure we all have experiences where that can lead you down the wrong path when where frustrated and disappointed about something

100 percent true

 Hey Guys ,

The story is absolutely true. The owner of the company spoke to me on the thursday night and told me he would come to geraldton on the friday and skipper the boat. Then turned around and said he wasnt coming. There response has been extremely poor. There was no discussion of a death in the family or anything of that nature. They just were not willing to try hard enough to get another skipper up there. Also the weather was not a factor either.
