Cherry popper
Went out Sunday morning, was anchored up at my normal haunt chasing sambos when about a hundred metres away birds started diving and going mental. Scrambled through my bag, tied on a metal and hooked this beauty first cast. Couldn't believe it as it's my first ever tuna and to say i was stoked is an understatement. School seemed to spook really easy and kept dissapearing so we went back to the sambos. On the way back in we saw some birds in the distance so thought we would go investigate and yep, it was on again. Didn't get much of a chance as they moved around alot and the chop made it really hard to spot the school but did manage to hook a skippy. I'm not really sure what species of tuna it is so if anyone can tell it is appreciated. Thanks Jon.

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Got a few last summer behind the 3-mile out from Mindarie
great fighting fish - trying to hold it in one spot with the rod and net it at the same time on my own was nearly impossible, they freak out when they see the boat kept going for hard runs even under the boat at times cant wait to get amonst them again. Good on ya for catching your first tuna. Did you cook it up? if so how was it?

It's dinner tonight, will let
It's dinner tonight, will let you know how it goes. Your right Cal, Coloniel Mustard was struggling to keep up with the pace of the school. They were gorging on what seemed to be white bait...he coughed up a heap and his gut was jam packed of the stuff. Is it just a case of spotting a bust up and then launching metals or is it worth trolling with skirts? Also whats the recommended way of keeping the flesh in top condition?

I dont know many people that
I dont know many people that eat them/ not really considered much as a table fish. All the ones we have kept for bait/burley have been full of worms too.

mate i,ve found the stripies
mate i,ve found the stripies spook so easily bloddy hard to say the least spinning or trolling so my tips are try get up wind and cut the motor and hope you drift straight into them or troll some chrissy trees real long and when your lure hits the school free spool and they hit it ion the drop if you cant get them on the troll
as far as chewing always been bait for me but would think bled straight on to a slurry not sure very red flesh
