Cheynes Beach Advice Needed
Submitted by Simo_ on Tue, 2017-12-19 17:19
Hey Guys, I'm heading down to Cheynes Beach on Friday. It's my first time down that way, we are staying at the caravan park. I'm planning on taking the boat down, anyone got any advice?

Watch the weed at the beach
Watch the weed at the beach and be quick launching/retrieving. Seen a lot of people either fall through the weed or sit around getting the trailer bogged.
Theres a shallow reef area straight out from the beach, usually alright at high tide but better off following the beach around then going out.
Head out pre dawn before the usual once a year xmas boaties clog up the beach and aim to head back in by 10ish am or stay out late into the arvo (again to avoid crowds)
Worthwhile trolling around the island for kingys, tuna etc while finding ground, jigs will have better results than baits as theres a heap of small wrasse and leatherjackets there. Lots of good fish within a few kms of land along the place.

Weed banks
Those weed banks right out the front are really good for kg and squid, kayaking territory.

Weed was up 3 weeks ago when
Weed was up 3 weeks ago when I was there! Still launched 8m boat no worries. Follow channel around don't go straight out or you'll get bogged
