in plague proportions out on the 40,s behind GI
Until this year have never seen one out there, now they are a bloody pest almost as bad as NW blowies for the way they bite through traces.......they are big too averaging 50cm with some even larger

Supposedly good eating
I have never been a lover of green bones - they are certainly big enough to clean and even fillet if you wanted to - I have been chucking them back in disgust but they are recorded as being a "commercial" species so would imagine they are edible

Used to eat leatherjackets a bit when I was younger. Easy to spear, not bad crumbed in the pan with a bit of lemon.

Give one a try
Some of the smaller species of leatherjacket are not too bad at all, but I've tried the big Chinaman leatherjackets and I'd rate them pretty ordinary.
Catch plenty deep dropping at times, but not worth keeping in my opinion.
Give one a try though, I'd be interested to know what you reckon.

Yeah after reading up it was the smaller ones we used to eat. Those big chinamens could be a pain with tackle.
