Been to both Christmas and Cocos.......the latter has heaps and heaps of sand flats whereas Christmas is predominantly reef and has limited areas to fish from the shore due to the extremely sharp limestone offering few places to stand. Still a great place to visit.....I was lucky, a local took me out in his boat thanks to a fish wrecked member putting him onto to me....broke my wahoo duck and lost a huge doggie......snorkelling around the cleaning station at the point is eye popping....HUGE Giant trevally .....enjoy your trip
I was there last year- if you get bored with the fishing and looking for something else to do, take a pair of flippers/snorkle/mask with you. Go to The Grotto, pick the correct tide and you can dive the cave out to the ocean-make sure you get it right! Then swim back thru to the cave.
Also if you can get a car, drive out to Dolly Beach(4wd track) then do the 40min walk to the beach. Fantastic bush walk and a swim at the beach-take plenty of drinking water, gets humid and hot.
I still can't get over how cheap bottled spirits are over there- 750m bottle Candian Club $26.00 dollars- all brought from the local Supermarket.
Look up 'Christmas Is Fishing and Adventure', ex-Karratha people living and working over here now, great people and know all the spots! Good luck mate.

If the tackle shop is still
If the tackle shop is still open hit them up. I've only flicked lures off the rocks for trev's but they were happy to give us some info.

Yeh been there before. Cocos
Yeh been there before. Cocos is the fly fishing bone destination, not Christmas.
christmas Island you're looking at wahoo, YFT, GTs, Red bass etc.
not easy without a boat. Very rocky high cliffs and not a lot of access via roads to much of the island.
i did get a great sized GT at one of the boat ramps though!
